It's just that simple.

No, it's isn't another FPS. It has some role playing elements, but it can be played three ways; total shoot'm up through the game, or total stealth through the game where you get achievements (or whatever the Wii styled cheevos offer) for completing the game within certain parameters, and it's hard to do as well. Then there's a combination of the two. If you have a PC, I would recommend playing the fiast Deus Ex, as it can be played on a low end PC and it can be gotten for real cheap; if you can get past older graphics, the gameplay and story is very good.

To be clear, what those vids show can be done in the original DE:R games as with the take down option on the second video example. Why are you showing videos that were uploaded examples of the game before its original release??

You forgot lots of styles to go through this game. My personal favourite: as a hacker pacifist who goes running straight to where enemies are (screw stealth) and punch 'em in the face while eating lots of energy bars. =P

not just that, it pretty much urges you to go stealth, because that gives you waaay more exp, so to unlock all skills it's pretty much a necessity |
And that's why I think the game failed a bit for me there. Why only reward players with a certain style gameplay with skills increases made available only through accomplishing one aspect of gameplay style. The game clearly allows the gamer to play as a shooter as well, so why skills were not also made for having good shooting skills or playing in that style made the game one-sided. If you don't advance skills as as the game stands now (through stealth), it is hard to get through the game. Having different sets of skills to increase relevant to the two styles (shooting and stealth) would have made the replayability of this game much better. I could only get through it a second time as it stood and unloaded the game from my PC and haven't played it since.

What? You were rewarded for being a good shooter too. And there were skills that improved your aim and your accuracy. ò.O The game was played like you wanted, and you were rewarded no matter what path you'd choose.

There are only three styles in DE:R, stealth, shooting and a mix of the two. Hacking is an imperative in the game, it isn't like you get to play that aspect by choice. Unlike the Splinter Cell games where you have a few options to get past certain barriers other than hacking (as an example), DE:R doesn't offer that. What kills DE:R for me is that none of that works well if you can't advance skills by doing things other than just being stealthy. Many games have hacking abilities but reward you for doing it without having to also do stealth to increase other skills.

Hacking is not imperative except for the very first terminal, which is mandatory in order to learn how to properly hack. My first playthrough was without leveling hacking, and there was no barrier (except for a side-quest which level 3 of hacking was needed) for my character because of it through the whole game. You don't need to be stealthy to advance skills.

Only if you want it to be.
I was a Stealth/Hacker that killed no one minus the Bosses your forced to kill. Stun Gun and Tranq Rifle was 95% of the game for me. Was a lot more fun than watching my friends play it guns a blazing.
Only used a Magnum gun + Grenades on the bosses.

Huh??? The only advance you get for shooting skills was two Aiming augmentations where it would steady one's aim, that is it, nothing more. Again, the game doesn't not reward you (like in achievements) for being shooters. In fact, if you shoot even one person, you cannot get numerous achievements that are associated with doing a stealth only play-through. As I said earlier, you don't get rewarded in the game for playing a shooter, which makes one play the game in the stealth style. if one wants to play a shooter, that's fine, they will not be rewarded so as to be able to advance certain skilsl that allows the player to get through harder game settings or be able to get certain other skills.
