Forums - Gaming - WiiU or Vita will sell more in 2013?

2013 Winner?

Vita 255 40.09%

WiiU 284 44.65%

About Even 55 8.65%

Dreamcast 30 4.72%

Virtual Boy 12 1.89%

Total:636

I'm pretty sure the best days for the Wii U are already over. There was a lot of marketing (with many many TV ads and stuff) going on in my home country but still, nobody really cared for the Wii U because it lacks appeal. If you already own a PS3 and/or an XBox360 then you really don't need it. While the old Wii was a huge success due to the new controller system, the whole idea behind the Wii U with it's tablet is anything but interesting. So neither the core gamers nor the casual gamers will fall for the Wii U. Even new games with big names won't really help.

That's why I say Vita will sell more in 2013.

Even though the handheld/mobile market is highly competitive it still has a chance while the Wii U is simply the wrong console in the wrong time. It lacks the potential of the Vita.

PS Vita will double Wii U sales.

Yes, I just said that.

The Wii U will likely sell around 7 million units this year. You believe the PSV will sell 14 million, in other words have a YoY sales increase of 400% and sell the same as the 3DS did last year?

I don't see it.

Maybe it's just me, but going 30k a week isn't really a pace to reach 7 million, unless this is going to be a veeeery long year. Like 240 weeks long ;) So far there is not a single game announced (by announced I mean with a release date or just so that it's 100% certain to come in 2013) that can cause a sudden improvement in the sales. On the other hand Vita does have a few heavy hitters coming and keeps getting more and more announcements of Japanese games, which can keep on turning things around in its favour in Japan.

I can assure you that Pikmin 3 will likely be bigger and sell more than any Vita "heavy hitter" to say no Vita game has hit a million yet.

If you don't count that, then Wind Waker HD is really going to do good for the system and will eclipse the big guns for Vita easily. And if either 3D Mario or Mario Kart launch, as well as whatever we don't yet know about...well I don't see how these aren't heavy hitters yet Tearaway, a game which will likely sell 500k tops, is.

HD Remakes never moved significant amount of consoles on 360 and PS3, I don't think that will change on Wii U. Besides, if NSMB can't move consoles, thenwhat can? I don't see 3D Mario or Mario Kart generating more buzz than 2D Mario. And even if they launch, it will be at the same time of the PS4 launch, I don't see the games doing numbers anywhere near their predecessors on Wii with such strong competition. We also don't know if 360 and/or PS3 will get price cuts, which would cut into Nintendos sales even more.

There are just too much signs pointing to a failure of the Wii U when it comes to sales. The price cut of the Vita on the other hand showed that there is interest for the device, while the price of the Wii U in europe dropped by nearly 50 % and still nobody wants it. So Sony just needs to make the right choices and they will outsell Wii U easily. I'm pretty confident we will see some new Vita titles at E3. From Nintendo, I'm only expecting the usual suspects.

Pikmin 3 is a niche title, and will hardly sell the wiiu at all

Vita will have a solid year if theres a WW price drop. The WiiU will rely on strong holiday sales from the new Mario which was promised to be demoable at e3

vita has a market in japan, while the wii u will get lost even more once the 720/PS4 launches

Pikmin 3 will sell well but be a very slow crawl to a million will not likely attract a lot of the non-Nintendo audience (the people who already have the damn console will the ones who buy it).

Whatever CoD comes out or Assasin's Creed: Rising Pheonix will be just as impactful. Not to mention games like Soul Sacrifice that go the path of Demon's Souls and be a nice hit.

Wow. You guys really have no faith in the Vita if you actually believe that the Wii U is gonna outsell it this year.

Your right we don't lol. The Wii U sold more in 3 months than Vita's first 10 months or so, so yes we believe when the games come Wii U will sell more.

This is a sweet form of cherrypicking :) You are aware that if you align the launch of both consoles, Vita was doing 50% better than Wii U is doing at this point? But I guess that such a fair comparison wouldn't support your argument... Tells much about it :P

This is going to be a great competition between these two platforms, but Vita has the upper hand so far, because Vita games actually ARE COMING, while Wii U games MAY COME OR NOT in 2013.

Ok, if your going to accuse me of cherry picking your going to have to explain how that's unfair comparsion, otherwise your claim is unsupport and in vaild. Also your cherry picking a stat to bloster your point too, so dont be a hypocrite. Want a fair metric to compare them? ok, how about the fist three months after launch, by the end of Feb. 2012 Vita had sold 1.2 million, and Wii U sold over 3 million, there that is fair, and you lose again.

BTW, writing in caps don't help convince people your right, it makes you look angry and crazy.  Actually we know good Wii U games are coming, Monster Hunter just released for one.
