Forums - Gaming - Bros before Hoes controversial (Marcus Beer adds to controversy)?

Controversial or not?

Not really 57 77.03%

Probably though not for me personally 8 10.81%

What I've been finding lately with the internet is the small few taking something that's not really that big of a deal and turning it into a huge deal. But it seems like lately the minority of a situation has been over turning the majority when it comes to possibly controversial situations. I personally am going to achieve the trophy first before I update my game. For the prinicpal of it!

Marcus is the village idiot of the video game industry. It's no surprise he focused on this since he has to rant about something every week, and clearly this was an easy target. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't we get that trophy when the male fury chooses to aid Kratos as opposed to helping his mothers? Wouldn't that make sense? .. I mean, that's a perfect example of 'bros before hoes' and taken in that light I really don't see that the big deal is. If that's the case then it is really silly for people to be thinking it is because Kratos so violently bashed a female fury (oh right, that's Adam's doing ... journalism at its finest).

What’s funny to me is that Marcus is bitching about the gameplay of GOW:A, pointing out that it is archaic. I find that funny since Marcus doesn’t actually PLAY games (with the exception of one or two games like Far Cry 3). Almost every show when a game was mentioned it was either ‘I haven’t started it yet’ or ‘I’m only a half hour into this game’ or ‘No I have not tried it’, and despite that he has the strongest opinions of those games in almost every show. You would really think he played those games for hours the way how he bashed or praised them.

As far as I'm concerned, this is Adam Sessler's fault.  He made a *HUGE* deal about it in his review, and even implied that the trophy name impacted the score of the game.  And that is coming from a middle-aged white male, of all people.  I mean this has just gotten WAY out of hand.   This whole being extremely overly-sensitive about things, taking things out of context, demagoguing, this has gotten entirely too out of control.

It's a trophy name, it's not surprising nor all that inappropriate judging by what type of game GoW is and what type of gamer plays it.  People need to stop getting so emotional about things.

This is exactly right, he was acting like a little brat that he even lowered the score over a trophy name that he didn't even understand the meaning behind it. Adam should have gotten fiered for making such a big deal out of something like this, he should stay as far away from game journalism as he can.

this thing is so overblown it's not even funny, hell the supposed witch you beat up is a damn illusion!!!

Bros before Foes is a better name for the trophy.
It's better to add your own twist rather than ripping cliches wholesale.

Those in defense all act like because they aren't offended than it isn't offensive. But the truth is that if someone finds it offensive than it is offensive. It doesn't matter if it was written by a woman or if the game is already over the top.

Sessler was disappointed in it's inclusion, but he didn't damn the game like so many people act like he did. I've seen so many people far more irate over what Sessler said than Sessler was when he said it. Sessler was more disappointed that the trophy undoes any maturity the game may have had than worrying if it will upset woman.

Honestly, it's the people who are so defensive about the critisism that are making it out to be more than it is. I doubt Marcus Beers would have had anything to say about it if it wasn't for all the fans blowing their tops because Sessler dared share his opinion on what he felt was an insulting Trophy title.

Sony apparently thinks it's worth patching so it's probably a little offensive to some.

Okay, the thing is, this would most likely offend women or girl gamers. Right? Which can be understandable, who wants to be refered to as a "ho"?

However, where was the outcry and uproar, again, in God of War 1 when Kratos literally was having sex with slave girls in between levels as a mini-game? I certainly don't remember outcry over that. And you'd think that is FAR more offensive.

To that I would say that Kratos can do and say almost anything because he is a fictional character with fictional motives for doing and saying them. If it's in the context of a story, while someone could be offended, it's not really insulting anyone. The Trophy title is Sony Santa Monica saying "Bros before Hos" which could be seen as insulting to women. It's like how it's perfectly fine for an actor to play a Nazi in a movie that says terrible things about Jews, but it's offensive if the same person insults jews in real life. The Trophy exists outside of the game, to comment on the game, and represents the game maker and their parent company Sony. That's why Sony is issueing a patch. Sony doesn't want it to look like they are calling women "hos".

My wife hates GoW... found this trophy humerous.

If that offends you but the rest of the game doesn't? Sounds like people trolling, I just don't see how ripping something apart doesn't offend a person but a trophies NAME does.
