Forums - Sales Discussion - ALL marioboys bought SMG and Wii? Or speculations made on SMG and SMS sales

@CrazZyman: I am a "Marioboy" it is either my number one or two game of 2007. But I was thinking, if you really don't want it to sell you should probably stop posting about it, and refrain from giving it any more attention/publicity.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Final Fan, that's cheating. Only games that sold less than its pressessor are alloved. So to sum up: games that sold less than its pressessors in Japan, have sold less then the presessor in Japan. :):)

I was looking back at the earlier pages, it appears Crazzy has changed himself, since what he says no longer fits with some of the quotes.

Early on Crazzy posted a graph comparing SMG to GTA:SA, here's the updated link
http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Grand+Theft+Auto%3A+San+Andreas+-+PS2&reg2=All&game2=Super+Mario+Galaxy+-+Wii&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=20

Pretty soon it should pass it.

UPDATE: Looks like the second-week drop was only about 50%. Maybe less.

If the third week has another 50% drop (from 2nd week) then it will already have beaten Melee sales in only 3 weeks! Does this change any of your predictions, CrazzyMan?

We'll have to wait for the final numbers, but it looks promising. 300k that I guesstimated was a bit low. If anything, it should be able to pass Melee numbers in 2 to 3 more weeks. That was almost always guarenteed.

steven787- That number doesn't include Europe for GTA:SA. Nor does it count the 5 copies that were sold in Japan.

http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Grand+Theft+Auto%3A+San+Andreas+-+PS2&reg2=America&game2=Super+Mario+Galaxy+-+Wii&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=20

That is the more correct link for comparing SMG to GTA:SA.

Or, since GTA:SA didn't sell a lot in Japan, you could do this: http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Grand+Theft+Auto%3A+San+Andreas+-+PS2&reg2=America&game2=Super+Mario+Galaxy+-+Wii&reg3=Japan&game3=Super+Mario+Galaxy+-+Wii&weeks=20

and add up SMG Jap + America, since that would be how much they both sold without Europe.

That is, at SMG's time in USA atm, 3.9M SMG vs 5.6M SA. The favour is even bigger for GTA:SA because 43 % of its total sales were in Europe, while SMG only has 30 %. Thereby you could add it up, and see that fictionally, GTA:SA was at 8.008 while SMG is at 5.07.

We can thereby sum up that GTA:SA sold roughly 60 % more than SMG at the time.

Further on, we can add that if we take away the first 5 weeks, SMG loses 2.1M and ends at 1.8M from week 8-12 while GTA:SA loses 3.8M, meaning that from week 5-12 it sold 1.9M. Both games had christmas in this period.

What also should be mentioned, is that GTA:SA launched in late 2004, meaning it only had 2 years of sales, while SMG will have minimum 4. As Galaxy is likely to be a long-legged game, it will sell the last 2 years too.

If we then assume that Galaxy manages a 5K/week for worldwide in those years, it will catch 500K there.

It should also be said, that this comparison is slightly unfair, because Europe is a legged game, so while GTA:SA get's the legs added in here as overall, SMG doesn't. That means we are a slight bit in favour of GTA:SA in this comparison. We can thereby say that GTA:SA is maybe only 2.5M in front of SMG.

Feel free to comment what I said.

What should also be added, is that GTA:SA has low legs. If you look at this: http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=America&game1=Mario+Party+8+-+Wii&reg2=Japan&game2=Mario+Party+8+-+Wii&reg3=All&game3=Grand+Theft+Auto%3A+San+Andreas+-+PS2&weeks=40

You see that after 10 weeks, GTA:SA was 3.7M ahead of MP8, 17 weeks later it is 3.4, meaning it has lost to a much lower selling game.

The same goes for Twilight Prciness, it was after 10 weeks 3.9M after GTA:SA while after 60 weeks it is 3.5M behind, meaning even a very low legged game (for being a Nintendo game) legged better than GTA:SA which means SMG (A mid-Nintendo game legged game) ought to legg much better than GTA:SA

Hehe, just a little fun fact, Nintendogs was 4.3M behind GTA:SA after 10 weeks, now it is 200K ahead (without Europe still)

That is legs!! I mean, it has never sold more than 490K in a week, and yet it is at 17M!
