well thats if you own pc,most gamers own one console and no pc, that's the reality, sure you won't see this much on gaming forums, but that's what the majority is.

Non-PC owners are a dying breed.

i'm talking about a gaming pc.

Given the system requirements of PC/console multiplats pretty much anything qualifies. My brother has five year old PC and he plays Skyrim at mid-high settings at least.

Well your pretty much wrong if you brother bought a pc 5 year ago, he must have bought one with gaming machine in mind  as well, if he bought a decent/cheap  one 5 years ago, it would not be able to play to games at a decent frame rate.

He didn't bought it with gaming in mind, because he has a X360. He got a low-end Pentium core 2 quad, 4GB of Ram and a crappy GPU.

Lated he decided that it was better to use his money to upgrade the GPU instead of paying for Live and DLCs. Now the only X360 thing he uses is the controller to play on the PC.

Yes and that’s the point. Sony already stated that they intend to support the system up until at least 2015, so that’s quite some time before he’ll need to upgrade.

Apart from those games the VP mentioned there are a plethora of other PS3 titles on the horizon, including Gran Turismo 6. The PS3 has so many new titles right now that it is hard to keep up as a result, so a backlog is inevitable. I already have enough games to last me way beyond 2015. And besides, I think most gamers buy a console for what it can offer in the near to medium term as opposed to its long term potential. I'm not saying people don't buy a system early for what it can offer later, but usually those people have a current gen system to keep them occupied. No doubt the Wii U has long term potential, but why keep it now when there’s NOTHING worth playing on it at the moment, especially when he can enjoy the PS3 to the fullest and upgrade later? Nintendo doesn’t even have firm dates for its games on the system, and the majority of the better titles will likely come out next year. By the time the real heavy hitters on Wii U land the system will probably be cheaper and so will the one or two decent games that will come out later this year. That’s the better move in my opinion and I’m encouraging him to do that. So that answers the ‘then what?’ in your post (after the PS3 has run its course).

I wouldn’t compare the 360 to the PS3 in those terms. For one Sony is not like Microsoft with respect to supporting older systems. This year alone he’ll have access to plenty exclusive PS3 games and multiplatform games that are not available on the Wii U. For exclusives he has Ni No Kuni, Sly 4, GOW:A, The Last of Us, Beyond: 2 Souls, Puppeteer, Rain etc and multiplat games include Metal Gear Rising, DmC, Bioshock Infinite. Crysis 3, Tomb Raider, Fuse, GTA V, Rayman (the former Wii U exclusive), Remember Me, etc etc etc. I see little reason to have a Wii U now when you have these games to play, and let’s not forgot developers at DICE were discussing what games they were cancelling on Wii U as opposed to projects they were working on, so all the more reason to give the Wii U more time.

I’m not saying it’s not okay to get a Wii U, but I am saying given what is available on the system the opportunity cost of keeping it would be way too high when you consider the PS3 as an option.

You know they're saying that because they don't want everybody to completely abandon the ps3, at least not until the ps4 is released. This year is the last big push for ps3 software. After you're pretty much only going to be hearing about new ps4 software releases as they'll want people to transition over to their new platform. They did the same thing to the ps1/ps2. If you want to believe that Sony is going to still be releasing a lot of major software releases for the ps3 all the way into 2015 then I don't know what to tell you other than you are only fooling yourself. After their major releases this year all of their studios are going to transition to ps4 development as that will be Sony's main focus. MS will be doing the same to transition people to the nextbox.

Both will keep selling and supporting ps3 HW/360 HW but software releases will be minimal at best.

You are missing the forest for the trees, but I’ll get to that later. Nobody expects Sony to throw their full weight behind the PS3 after the PS4 launches (in fact the division of their resources has already begun). They’re balancing their resources between the PS3, PSV and PS4. It is inevitable for them to mitigate support for the platform over time, but it won’t happen overnight, and more importantly that’s not the point of this argument. The point surrounds opportunity cost, and the OP would be better off gaming on the PS3 since it has games NOW and the Wii U has NOTHING of note at this point. Furthermore, it doesn’t seem like the Wii U will have strong titles this year, and the REAL reasons to own a Wii U will likely come out next year. With that said, the OP can use the PS3 NOW since it has GAMES to play and upgrade to the Wii U later – either next year or the year after when it has games and is cheaper. Instead of focusing on that detail of the PS3’s support dwindling over time you should look at the bigger picture here (the forest).

As for PS3 support, I think you’re overlooking some details here. To think all of their studious will switch to PS4 overnight is a bit naive. Are you aware the great majority of Sony's studios have at least 2 teams? Are you aware that the majority of them are doing PS4 games while the other sections are doing PS3 games? (Take Gran Turismo for PS3, PS4 and Vita for instance). Sony wants to extract as much as they can from the PS3 before it is obsolete, and Sony won’t be the only once since other devs will want to make as much as they can from the larger install base before committing wholeheartedly to the next gen platforms. I think we’ll see cross-gen titles akin to Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed IV for a while before they transition completely, and I’m willing to bet a lot of those titles won’t grace the Wii U. So far it seems only Ubisoft is willing to support the Wii U, for now. Oh and as for the Xbox examples you used with Microsoft ... there's little consistency in your comparison since MS was not interested in supporting the system, at all. They just wanted to launch first at all cost and cut the life of the Xbox after 4 years, and that's happening now with the 360 (to a degree). You may not believe Sony plans to support the PS3 after the PS4 launches, but I'll take the word of the VP and guys at the World Wide Studious over your perception.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

At the moment, no there no reason and the more we hear how devs are praising the 720 and PS4, ....I don't see a future for the Wii U. Exclusives are great ,but for the gamers who don't buy multiple consoles, its simply not a good investment if you'll be missing out on killer multiplat. I learn my lesson with the original Wii and I'm scare I might had made a mistake buying the Wii U too soon. I guess because it was Christmas and I got caught in the hype, which I hate.

Regret is a horrible thing :/

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

Some people are taking this personally. LOL. But your biggest mistake was trading in the PS3 for the Wii U in the first place, still dont know why the hell you did that. But it seems you learned your lesson, dont buy a console just cause of a name on a box at launch. Doesnt matter what name, that will always be a foolish decision. At least you rectified it by getting rid of Wii U and getting another PS3, a system that has a lot of games. YOu could always buy Wii U later when they have games you actually WANT to play and it might be cheaper.
