Forums - Sony - Games will run faster on the PS4 then on a PC....

..according to Jonathan Blow In an interview with EDGE, Jonathan Blow talked about performance on PS4 vs. PC on his upcoming game The Witness, and he said “the equivalent game will run faster” on PS4.  “For The Witness we’re mostly interested in the base machine and how fast it is – the fact it has faster RAM than a PC.”

Indeed, the PS4 will have 8GB of GDDR5 RAM, while your regular high-end PC only has DDR3 RAM. But the comparison is about more than just RAM speed.

“[RAM] really helps in shuttling graphics resources around, and since it’s not running a heavyweight operating system like Windows that gets in the way of your graphics. Rendering stuff through Windows has an impact on performance. Since a console is just about games, that doesn’t happen, and the equivalent game will run faster. And if you can target to specific hardware you can make it run faster, too.”

This quote, of course, means a lot of folks are going to try out The Witness on both platforms to run comparison tests. Lucky us.

So, no windows overhead, faster ram, and the ram being all system ram (you can make changes to video ram directlly) will speed things up compared to today's normal PC architecture. But we will be able to compare for ourselves when the game comes out for PS4 and PC.

And the game on an Intel i3770K with GeForce Titan will run bells and whistles around the PS4. Kind of a no brainer. What does he even babble about "equivalent game" - does he know that equivalent essentially means "same performance"?

Negative.

PC gaming glorious master race always will have the better FPS, given the fact they have hardware to back it up. Unless that specific piece of software runs like shit on pc, then it doesn't help if you have Al Gore's PC, you are doomed.

well he as a point, run a game on a platform dedicated 95% to the game vs a game played on something that dedicated 45% of is potentiel, you'll need higher gear to have the same resulte.

but pus the high end pc gear for a console dedicated 95% to it. no software running, win X etc. this machine will be a beast for many year to come.

maybe steam is looking into that.

Nope. Maybe on a crappy port that was built on PS4 and half-assed on a port to other consoles/PC, but not in general and certainly not past the first year of the consoles life when PCs are on average far more powerful.

Really, all this super computer talk for PS4 is getting annoying.

Especially since its only focusing on memory and ignoring the down-clocked APU with mobile-series CPU/GPUs.

Yeah... its uber-crazy-powerful. It'll run on love even.

this RAM thing is beyond me, but this sounds like good news. well i do understand it but the fast RAM and what ever other RAM is what's got me.

Like I said... only guys with machines equipped with GPUs over the GTX 680/HD 7970 will run games better than PS4.... so ~2% of the PC gamer users.

Every gamer developer always asked for more and fast RAM... 8GB GDDR5 give them that.

Exactly what hardware on the PC is he targeting. Most Graphics cards come with GDDR memory. Yes, 8gb they do not come with but then again 8gb of GDDR5 is probably way overkill as other game specific things do not need that type of bandwidth.

powa of the cell! oh wait...... seriously thoug, he's talking efficiency, PC has so many configurations that you can't just say PC as one PC, but he's prolly getting some love from Sony in one way or another for sure.

PCs will always have the potential to run better but that doesn't mean all PCs run it better. He's obviously referring to general gaming PCs, not the upper limit.
