Forums - Microsoft - "That moment when you're sure that Next PlayStation will be slightly more powerful than Next Xbox (or vice versa)."

Neither is likely going to be "more powerful" then the other... at least depending on what you consider power

It's likely going to be like this generation... where they each have different strengths weaknesses and bottlenecks that makes declaring a "winner" purely subjective.

So... a repeat of the previous gen, then. Only with less exclusives and more studios shutting down.

PROGRESS, oh wait, you forgot more DLC, fewer completed games and more facebook.  Don't you just love how those HARDCORE companies like Sony and Microsoft are saving the Video Game industry?  :-C  I hope the Wii U does well.

Don't forget more user videos uploaded to youtube and embedded on any forum thread.

moores law should not allow to make one console more powerful than another as long as they are released at the same time.
it just depends on wether kinect2 is integrated or not as MS has to reduce the costs for gaming hardware because of kinect.this may have an impact and wether windows8 is integrated(this may reduce the optimasation of the console hardware)

1. Of course there can be differences but Sony and MS also aim for the same target-group so yes they won't be very big differences. But look how underpowered the Wii was in comparison to PS360. But this was intentionally :)

2. Kinect is something that will hit price but not performance. But please don't say Windows 8 (or whatever MS will use) will affect performance of NextBox. MS builds compilers, operating systems and dev-tools since "ever" and I think almost noone out there knows as good as they do how to build software, especially for games (DirectX, DirectCompute (TressFX, for example). Thinking this would be a disadvantage for MS is rediculous, sorry :) It wasn't the case with first Xbox, it wasn't with 360 (remember the less memory footprint they had in comparison to PS3's?) and it will not be with NextBox.

i think kinect can hit price or performance (just  depends wether ms is going to lose or gain money with the console)or both,in a kind of middle wy,therefor i think you can't exclude performance from being hit,as MS were free to choose whatever they want to adjust the console price.

Kinect may also hit performance in another way-imagine kinect to be powerful but powerhungry at the same time, being used in  a core game ,not having an own cpu,the xbox 3 must do the calculation=less power for the game.

doesn't even matter if it won't have any games....

This is the type of comment you would expect from someone on N4G.

I think Kinect will be driven by an extra chip - they wanted to do this with first Kinect but that would've been too expensive. Depending on their architecture they could easily place a small asic to help Kinect.

Well, it seems that it gets to where we can say that we won't see major differences in terms of power between PS4 and NextBox:

Ryan Payton twittered

hinting at both consoles to be almost equally powered.

"That moment when you're sure that Next PlayStation will be slightly more powerful than Next Xbox (or vice versa). True, vindictive ecstasy!"

So MS, keep them damn specs coming! :)

If they are really close, it is going to come down to which system is least expensive, has the largest library or content people want, and also interface/feature specs that most closely match.  Hmm.... did I miss something?

I will put it another way: First, it is of no meaning who "wins". If they sell almost equally there will be competition which would be the best for gamers. But overall I think the most convincing package will win. Multimedia, future-proof, games, ideas, innovations - this will count.
