Forums - Sales - Japan Sales: Tsutaya Game Ranking (Mar 4 - Mar 10)

I said in the last MC thread I expect Soul Sacrifice to be the best launch title for Vita in Japan... so over 150k.

It is a hunter game.

Lord of Apocalpyse and Ragnarok Odyssey are two hunting games that barely opened to 30k in Japan.  Being in that genre doesn't necessarily make it an automatic success.

However, with how much Sony have been advertising the game, I wouldn't be surprised if it did do well for that reason COMBINED with the fact that it's in the hunting genre.

Can I ask what is the big surprise?

In line with what I expected for that week.... Soul Sacrifice first and Project Diva second.

It's a surprise to see SS first because the pre-orders weren't looking very good in the COMG thread. This could mean it's >100k. Very impressive if so for a new Vita IP

Never use that COMG thread as a source for anything...

this

You expected 6 digits FW for SS? That's what this implies...

I expected it to be number 1.

Why exactly? Miku should and most likely will be #1. It should outdo the Vita version without much trouble.

I expected Miku to be #1 simply because of the large PS3 install base and the huge following Vocaloid has in Japan. When Diva f (small f not big F) launched on Vita it topped the charts, so with 9x the install base of Vita it should have handily beat Soul Sacrifice, especially a single version of the game. Instead we see the regular pack alone beat it at Tsutaya without the double pack or the limited edition. I wonder if this will carry over nationwide, since Media Create and Famitsu estimate all physical sales Soul Sacrifice may end up on top with all versions combined.

But Soul Sacrifice is not a hunting game.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Yes it is O.o

They even advertised it on TV as such. "Let's hunt with magic" and "Calling all hunting gamers" were their two catch slogans.

It's instance mission based and zones/monsters have set loot drops, which can be crafted and upgraded for new spells (there's over 300 according to Famitsu).

The only thing missing is a lobby area where you can sit around as your character and chat between missions with other players, since it's all based out of the grimoire.

This is just a marketing technique ,what is the big similaries between Monster Hunter  and Soul Sacrifice.

If Soul Sacrifice is a hunting game i can say god of war is a hunting game Kratos hunt grecs gods.

Animal Crossing released 4 months ago...at this rate, the game will run out of 3DS owners and people will start to buy second copies.....

About 30% of all 3DS owners have the game in Japan, that's a huge tie ratio. It's especially been key to pushing the female non-gamer demographic into buying the handheld. Bandai Namco recently suggested they recognized this growing market potential in the 3DS. Expect to see casual female targeted games. Maybe even some BL.

Whats BL?

Boys Love aka Yaoi aka man on man romance.

Ok then, fine by me. I've got no problems with software targeted at different demographics, the more the merrier. But for now I am pretending that BL stands for Borderlands. BL on 3DS, oh yeah.

lol. There's some BL on every platform, but the PSP probably had the most last generation. Some of it even got localized (Hakouki).

先週の本体実績はその前の週の1.5倍、本当に「Vita」が元気になりました。

http://gamesmaya.blog98.fc2.com/

This blog says the Vita sold 1.5x the units compared to last week... in this store (not others).

A good sign.

Edit - Seems like Vita and Soul Sacrifice is huge popular among young teenagers.

I read the entry and yeah, he's saying Soul Sacrifice and Vita have been selling steady, increasing in sales. He pointed out that in particular middleschool to highschoolers were buying the system with the game, a key demographic that pushed Monster Hunter and PSP to massive popularity a few years ago. If Vita can pick this group up once again for Soul Sacrifice it could be huge, because until now it's been mostly a system for older gamers. But yeah this is just one shop so no basis to get excited yet.
