Forums - Sony Discussion - Forbes: "Social Media Buzz Points To Strong Demand For Sony PlayStation 4"

People REALLY need to stop labeling blog posts as being from Forbes.   Sick of seeing all this stuff attributed to Forbes.

ANYONE can get shit posted on the Forbes blog site.

Anytime you see the authors name in Fobres HTML it's as much from Forbes as your cousin's racist facebook posts are from Facebook.

That said, I imagine PS4 will have strong demand.

Though "intent to buy" studies are HUGELY flawed unless conducted with very specific guidelines.   The thing is... a LOT more people plan to buy something... then actually do.   I'm sure plenty of you have about a dozen games this generation you intended to pick up... yet never did.

I know I do.

This effect gets even worse as cost goes higher.

Forbes is really excited for the PS4, they've been putting out a lot of articles. That's good. Now just get Bloomberg on the wagon too and the investors will flock in.

They really haven't... it's just people who use Forbes blog service.

Forbes really has greatly hurt their journalistic integrity to play in the contributor market that HuffPost started

these kinds of studies are especially iffy when the price hasn't been announced yet, but I guess it's still good that people are excited for the system and its features.

At the end of the day the average, slightly business inclined person will still see "Forbes said it" and assume that means it's credible.

Looking at the article you linked it looks like readership has only gone up, which means it's becoming more influential, regardless of the model used.

Having the Forbes site filled with positive PS4 articles, regardless of the source, effectively means Forbes is leaning that direction due to this model.

The media is always biased one way or another so this really isn't surprising in any regard, and most people don't even catch on. But you have to admit it is still greatly influential in molding the opinions of the masses.

The point is... it's not credible.

The only credible articles on forbes are the ones that don't have a personal blog link.

What they say is the actual way Forbes is leaning.  At least if you mean Forbes the influential and insightful news company and not Forbes the modern Blogger.

Forbes the random blog spot's opinion really is irrelevent... and chances are, you could find just as many positive AND negative stories for all the consoles.  The only ones people are going to be picking up on are the ones that fit their particular preffered view/ ones they saw in a link elsewhere.

Forbes bloggers are the bottom of the barrel, they're like those review sites EVERYBODY hates.  They need to stand out to get money so either they play up fans wishes to the Nth Degree or they Flame the hell out of something to play up haters wishes.

29 percent are interested, while 71 percent aren't. It's a small form of hype, but not anything major. In time and closer to launch, it will build. Who knows. I was at Walmart last week and a mother was buying 3 PS3 games for her two sons. I told them, "you know Sony is releasing the PS4 this fall." The one boy didn't even know there was a PS4 announcement. The mother then said, "oh great, another console to buy." I then said, "It can't play PS3 games either." She then said, "then what's the point in buying PS3 games now?" The other boy replied, "Sony sure is stupid. Why can't the system be like the PS2?" I then told him, "It's all about the money..."

ummmm...ok.  Didn't have anything to do with completely changing the architecture?  Did you mention it would increase the cost of the system over $100?  Did you say PS3 games will still be fun and Sony will still support it for a couple more years with new games?  Man what is it with store employees these days and their anti sony agenda?  Also one boy not knowing means nothing.  I know a lot of casual gamers (COD or 2K basketball only) and they know about PS4.  It hasn't even been E3 yet.

The general public is unaware of the PS4, non-gamers per se. None of my friends at my church group know about the PS4, and they play video games. I am not a store employee, btw. I'm a teacher's assistant at a daycare

still though no reason to agree and act like it's some sort of filthy business decision or that PS3 will be abandoned.  No one supports  legacy like Sony and no generation had lasted this long from what I remember.

If Sony supports "legacy," then why was backwards compatibility taken out of the PS3? Cutting costs. The same reason why PS4 won't play PS3 games. However they are making up for it with cloud integration later on with the PS4 so those games can be streamed to the console.

I mean they come out with more games and budget priced collections late in a console's life than anyone.  Use the money you don't have to spend on BC to get PS3 games or PS4 stuff since it'll be cheaper.  They will support PS3 till at least 2015 compare that to MS or Nintendo and the last year of their 7th gen consoles.  GoW, LoU, Puppeteer, Beyond, NiNoKuni, Sly, GT6 (possibly), PSallstars vs. Halo 4, Xenoblade, Zelda SS, Gears Judgement, Forza Horizon.  Even when you combine their competitors there's no comparison.

Yeah, you are right about that I just don't have the time or money for other consoles. I'm saving my money now for the future and I've already invested some of it with my Wii U and other games (also paying for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn once it releases). Plus I like music so I buy a lot of it (a certain brand of instrumental and therapeutic music that I use for my job). So yes, no time or money for other consoles right now. Plus my family, friends, and girlfriend like Nintendo games and consoles, so I'm stuck with them. Plus Nintendo has the games that I want. The only games I'd buy for the PlayStation systems are Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Tales of series. Oh, Dead or Alive, Tekken, and Soul Calibur. That would be it. I don't fancy violent video games and I don't like Sony franchises. Just not my cup of tea.

Its funny reading comments of people trying to downplay the hype.

Same users everytime.
