Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What is the case for the Wii U getting PS4 and next Microsoft console content?

If games are ported to Wii U they will have to be heavily toned down. RAM isn't the only issue, processing power is already lacking. Heck the Dynasty Warriors port to Wii U is infamous enough already in Japan for its "stealth troops" literally invisible enemies due to inability to process large hordes of enemies on screen. And that's not even a next gen game.

It'll get majority of their 3rd party support. Down ports will look fine but not as good as PS4/720.

I still remember the 2 week period when wii sales began to decline. It was almost immediately after the Playstation*Move launched. Kinect came out 4-5 weeks after, and that was the beginning of the end.

Nintendo launched the wiiu early, knowing full well it was the only card they had. Get enough wiiu consoles out into the wild and hope developers and consumers respond positively during the 12 month lead. That was the strategy, all cards have obviously been placed in this strategy.

I actually hope it's on the same boat as the Wii based on third-party content. As I play every multiplatform game on PC, I'm not buying any next-gen console to play games that are cheaper and better on PC. I want a console that gives me smaller-budget third-party exclusives, like the Wii did.

About the multiplatform ports, Wii U has similar achitecture to PS4/NextBox, so it's just a question of lowering the graphical quality. The Wii situation was entirely different, as Wii was a single-core CPU/fixed function GPU console while 360 and PS3 were multi-core CPU/programmable shader GPU consoles, therefore, engines that worked on the Wii didn't worked on PS3/360 and vice versa. Wii U case is totally different, as every engine that works on PS4/NextBox should work on the Wii U.

The fact the games are possible doesn't mean they are feasible. For Wii U to get those ports, they have to start selling. So far there is no indication of that happening and I'm sure that the list of 3rd party developers interested in taking the risk of checking if the market exists is getting shorter every week. Once PS4 and X720 get out, Wii U ports will look really bad in comparison, so the chances of people buying them on Wii U will get even smaller than now when the ports from PS360 are on par. It will be hell if developers go the easy way and release next gen versions of games on PS4/720 and reduced ports on PS360 and Wii U. That would kill Wii U multiplats in a couple of months.

Just look at RE: Revelations not getting a Vita release. You can't tell me that it's because Vita can't handle the game... It's cause crapcom decided it's not going to earn them money (idiots!!). Wii U is in a similar, if not worse situation.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

And I agree with you. I was just pointing that there's no problem "power-wise" that would make porting next-gen multiplaform games to Wii U impossible.

First titles will be available for wiiu (watch dogs, destiny, ac 4 all examples). After that, I guess depends on 720 power but still probably not.

"Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth." -My good friend Mark Aurelius

Wii U isn't powerful enough to get ports on par with PS4 and Xbox 720. There will be exceptions of course, but games that can be scaled down for Wii U, can probably also be scaled down to PS3/360. So I don't think developers will let Wii U limit what they can do with their games, not with the way it is selling right now.

Isn't this happening already? Didn't the developer of the Witness say the game won't be on PS3/360 and Wii U due to low specs? It's definitely coming out on PS4 and I think it is safe to say it will come on Xbox next and PC since it's not a PS4 exclusive.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

Didn't Bungie say it was not coming to Wii U?   .. Or rather, didn't they announced it for every console but Wii U?

EDIT: I did some research. Looks like there are articles that suggest 'it could' be coming to Wii U.
