It will be a big selling point for both systems. I've said it for a year, I own a PS4 controller. I was really disappointed with the remote play on PS3. The PS3 wasn't probably designed for remote play and no one supported it. It was slow and lagged. The automatic start feature glitched up with routers making it completely useless and required someone to turn the PS3 on to use it away from home. What I used it the most for was accessing the PS3 store after the updates, but now the new store doesn't work with it.

With the PS4 being designed with Vita in mind, it will not only run faster as they've shown the speed of the connection it has (no more lag, yay!) but it should work entirely with the system and all its features and games (except move required ones and stuff). So it is kind of like the Wii U in that you can operate and access the console without using your tv right? Well with PS4 and Vita you can do that but from any internet connection, not just in your house.

exactly, the PS3 didn't have dedicated hardware for de/encoding video, the Cell handled that, so in order for a game to work with remote play it had to be coded in a way to allow the Cell to encode a video and send it through wlan/internet to the PSP/Vita while working on the game at the same time

the PS4 can do all that while using all of it's core components (CPU/GPU/Ram) to it's fullest, so it should be possible to stream anything your PS4 does to the vita

The PS4 isn't using encoding to display the image on Vita, rather a direct stream at Vita's native resolution.

Source Gamechup, via Gamenyarth

"We have some new details on some of the features of the PS4 via Japanese Magazines.

The console will be able to stream PS4 games to the Vita at the handheld’s native resolution. Which means, a game running at 1080p on the PS4 will be compressed to Vita’s resolution and then streamed, and this is possible due to the powerful hardware inside the system.

When you transfer a movie clip from a PS4 to PC, there’s no encoding required. It won’t be in a proprietary format. The DualShock 4′s touchpad is not meant to be a priority feature like the Sixaxis on the PS3, but developers are having creative ideas on how to use it."

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

video data will always be encoded before they are send, as raw video data is huge, even at PSV's native resolution - simply encoding it to h.264 can make it 1/10th of the size while keeping the same quality

Damn I clicked wrong poll option was I ment to say a moderate effect in stead I said not a notable impact.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong and they are just referring to the video files etc. Well however they do it they listed the latency speed of the stream and it is a welcomed improvement over the PS3's.

Nah, you are just a bit confused about things here. What the PS4 essentially sends to the PSV is a video of what it is doing at that time. Sending that as raw data is essentially sending 30/60 bitmap pictures per second, which is a huge amount of data. A 960x544 (PSV native resolution) bmp is 1.5MB, so an uncompressed video at 30 fps is 45MB per second (360mb/s) (or twice that for 60fps video) - more than even most wlan connections can transport. That's why the data is encoded/compressed before it is send, as that way you can have virtually the same quality at a small fraction of that size.

I think it will undoubtably boost sales for Vita but It may not come into real effect well into 2014 once the ps4 userbase is fairly big.

Many Wii U owners stated that off-screen play is one of the best things about the system, however the wii U can't sell itself on that alone, it needs the games. PS4 line up is already looking more healthy then the wii U and with gaikai the Vita's remote play could extent beyond the home. obviously the extent of the sales bump depends on the price of the Vita+sony's marketing. But again we won't see this straight away, I can't see too many people spending $600+ on A ps4+PSvita within the same holiday period.

And people please stop comparing it to ps3 remoteplay, there are like 3 games which work on it (ICO/SOTC, GOW collection Tokyo Jungle) and Sony hasn't advertised that feature of outside of a press conference demo.

Maybe a small impact., but it still won't convince me to get one. Now if they announce that VITA games can be streamed to my TV through the PS4, I'll get one immediately.

Honestly, i don`t think it will make a difference. PS3 already lets you play your PS3 game on Vita. At least that`s what i remembre from a comercial.
But even if it was something unique to PS4, can you imagine how much the PS4+Vita bundle would cost just to stream games to play on Vita?
Nintendo already tried to connect GBA to GC and it didn`t work. It isn`t the same type of proposition, but it´s close. And even with the popularity of the GBA, it did nothing for GC sales.

This is something that will matter for those who already intend in having both consoles.

Vita will be able to stream nearly all PS4 games.
Vita can't stream any PS3 games.(well maybe like 1 or 2)

Even today, if Vita could stream all PS3 games it would mean an extra 250 $/€ just for that.
Assuming PS4 starts at 400, the whole thing would cost 650 just to be able to stream for an handheld.

The cost entry for that is just too high. And that doesn`t include the price of games and accessories.

Maybe the day will come where the "bundle" won`t cost much but we are years away from that.

I'm not the one saying PS4 streaming with save the Vita. I know its expensive and I don't expect it to be a selling point beyond a few hardcore gamers.

No, i understood that much. Sorry if i took it to far.

Nintendo tried this with gamecube and gba. Some good ideas but never took off - maybe due to technology constraints or lack of resources, I dont know. Sony tried it with psp and ps3 and that fanfare disappeared like a fart in the wind.

I dont know if its lack of interest on the developers behalf of the gamers as to why this hasnt taken off before. I havnt really seen anything on offer that blows me away - just more pillow talk and promises.
