I have primarily been a 360 gamer this gen and have been playing a lot of online MP. I use a wired connection on 360 since it doesn't have wifi and it works very well. I got my PS3 a while back last holiday but never really played any online games until just now. I got a fighting game (Naruto UNS3) which I intend to play online. The PS3 does seem to have wireless built in but I'm not sure whether it's a good idea to play on wireless. I have had horrendous experience with lag playing on wifi connection on the Wii (SSBB and DBZ BT3 were extremely laggy).

So now I'm a bit confused. My router is downstairs a fair distance away from the consoles and I had to do some crazy engineering to bring a connection upstairs. I don't want to have to constantly switch the ethernet cable from my 360 to PS3. So before I go and splurge out on ethernet cable splitters and all that jazz to hook up a wired connection to my PS3, I wanted to know if any of that really makes much of a difference? Is it noticably different with an improved connection if you are playing on wired on PS3? And what type of connection have you had success with?

its the 21st century thats why we got wireless internet and controllers if only we had wireless power

tried wired for several intervals at a time noticed no gain in lag or k/d, but have 95-100% wireless connection

I did try a wired connection and i never noticed any difference between both of them, such as lag and all that shiznit.

I run a 20m ethernet cord under the house up into my room. the wireless on ps3 is non existent.

Wired. I have only bad experiences with wireless connections.

I have virgin media so I'm on fibre optic as well.

Yep. I went from Virgin ADSL which was terrible in every way to Infinity which is flawless and the router is fantastic. Virgin Cable is great as well, though just harder to get at times - what's the router like? If it's decent I imagine you could get away with wireless gaming if the signal strength is adequate.

It depends on a lot of things. My internet at one house is crap regardless so I use WiFi. At my other house my internet is hundreds of mbps and only limited by the Ethernet cord itself so there of course everything is plugged in. I'm thinking of upgrading to gold Ethernet cables.
