Forums - Gaming - So, EA deliberately strips Dead Space of the elements that made it great and cans it when it no longer appeals?!

Guys, this was a fake rumor that VGC and other websites took up as real news - but while other sites later updated to say the rumor was false, VGC did not.

Dead Space 3 is performing just fine according to EA's response, and there are no plans to stop the franchise or take a break. Please change your OP to inform everyone of this.

Regardless of whether they are canning the game or not. EA still practices horrible business models and they still buy up once great series and developers and turn their products into generic genre tropes trying to reach COD sales numbers that are not realistic in the first place. EA is still a cancer. With or with out them canning Dead Space is true or not.

Hell, with how they are deliberately forcing the game to become generic crap they might as well can it.

The bolded part always confuses the hell out of me.  I see complaints all the time about publishers buying studios but they don't make any sense.  People do know that you can't just take over a studio, right?  That the studio in question has to agree to the sale?  If you want to hate on anyone, hate on the studio owners who sold out for the quick dollars.  They do it knowing full-well that the publisher could close them down within a year and everyone there would be out of work.

Just because you hate a company, doesn't mean you should spread false information. If a rumor is proven false, it should be noted so that everyone has the correct information on the topic. Just because you don't like a company, doesn't mean you should be able to spread false rumors to rile everyone up and say "it's okay that it's false, because this company sucks."

I mean no personal rudeness to you. I just think you should update your OP to reflect the fact that these were indeed fake rumors. If you want to make a topic about EA's bad practices, you should do that without this false information.

Whoa there, champ. First of all, I didn't know this was debunked until one of you guys on the thread said it was. So my initial purpose was NOT to spread false rumors.

SECONDLY (AND MOST IMPORTANTLY), the POINT of this thread is not this article. This is but a SMALL MICROCOSM on why EA is a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, anti-consumer company that apparently has been taken over buy a bunch vampiric uber capitalists who could care less about gaming unlike their passionate leadership in the 90s.

So this thread, and this complaint is super valid. And being that I am not the only one on this forum expressing this exact same sentiment and that EA has been regarded as one of the world's worst companies for consumers on the planet for a while now, I think you're the one in the minority here. You realize you DONT have to post on this thread right? You rule works for you too buddy.

I agree with others that you need to change the title, and perhaps edit your original post. I don't care how much you fucking hate Electronic Arts, and think they are the devil incarnate. That doesn't mean you should follow the devils example. If for no other reason then it undermines your argument, by making you look like a hypocrite.

@topic

Every publisher is guilty of bad behavior. To pretend otherwise is just fucking dumb, and it isn't just third parties that are at fault. Each of the manufacturers has fucked over consumers countless times. The only valid question is whether Electronic Arts has done so more then necessary, or was particularly egregious in what they have done. I personally think that they have, but I am not too terribly worried about them getting away with what they are doing, because I know the market by its nature is self correcting.

I am a big believer is cumulative effects. It is never just one thing that causes the ship to sink. It is always a chain of irresponsible choices. Electronic Arts running its operations like a fly by night outfit, and doing everything it can to swindle consumers out of every cent they can get their hands on. Will end up haunting them. It wont be people making the choice to boycott their goods. It will be people to scared to buy them in the first place.

That point it time is nowhere near at hand. Most gamers may gripe, but they still gladly grab their ankles for the company. They don't hate what is happening enough, or afraid enough of getting screwed over to miss the next installment in their favorite Electronic Arts franchise. If you support Bioware, or you just have to buy the next sports game that will come from them. Then you are a supporter of Electronic Arts as a whole.

Personally I don't understand it myself. Of coarse I am no longer a fan of Bioware after what they pulled on me with Mass Effect. As for sports games I really never got those period.

If you read my entire OP and came to the conclusion it was solely about microtransactions you seriously need read comprehension courses. This is about EA's 7 year practice of buying up companies and franchises then bastardizing their products in attempts to milk them try or make them entire to something that will sale like Call of Duty. Have you seen what happen to Insomniac's Overstrike since EA decided to publish it? It went from being a lively almost Incredibles influenced breath of fresh air into a generic shooter that looks like a third person COD. Not to mention the myriad of other games they've eviscerated.

I feel they have done with SimCity also. A lot of people are calling it SimTown or SimVillage. They h

This was proven false...

You should update OP to relect that the rumors were false.   If you hate EA that's fine, but allowing falsehoods to spread simply to suit your personal vendetta against the company isn't right.

As I have said before, the point of the thread is NOT Dead Space 3 (that is but a small microcosm to EA being a pitiful relic of it's past self), their history of bastardizing franchises this Gen is TRUE. The fact that they stripped Dead Space from it's survival horror roots systematically from part 1 til now is TRUE. The only that you guys are saying is false is that they canned the sequel.

Which still remains to be seen. We will see if they release Dead Space 4. Until then...thread's on target.

Your thread title clearly states that EA has canceled Dead Space as a series...and that isn't true.  Before making threads you should at least do the necessary research to make sure that there aren't outright lies in your thread title and OP.  Just...change it to reflect that.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

Unfortunately, that game shouldn't have gone past two, but it made a lot of money. Now they tried to cash in and it failed, so the series is over.

Seriously, when are people going to stop supporting Electronic Arts?! They MUST end these shady business practices. Seriously. They are doing more harm to gaming than good. I mean sure they have more money than God and they buy up any and and every new uber talented studio or ip so they can milk it to smithereens but WE as gamers and consumers should not reward their borderline evil business models by purchasing their products. Dead Space is the just the latest in a long line of titles that have been systematically lobotomized once EA got their hands on them. And with their movement towards microtransactions and Day 1 DLC, I think it's safe to say that EA has really lost its soul. Sometimes you get too big for your own britches and you lose sight of what made you great to begin win. EA in the 90s were LEADERS IN INNOVATION not just publishers who wanted to milk every single game dry then discard it like a piece of meat.

And don't get me started on EA Sports. And Madden. And NBA Live. Oh dear, Lord. The horror.

The sentiment is not realistic. People are never going to miss out on game they want to play just for the sake of making a point to the publisher.

Disagree completely. Support for EA has weakened each subsequent year. It's just that sadly their are a lot of uniformed gamers (usually young, whose parents buy all their games) who don't know just how remarkably evil EA's business models have become. It's out job as responsible consumers to put that info out there. I've opened the eyes of myriads of people I know about the shady business practices of EA, Microsoft, Capcom etc. etc. and they refuse to buy anymore of their games.

This will continue until they no longer have a stranglehold on the industry. No one stays on top forever. Especially when they lose their way and lose sight on what made them who they are.

Out of curiosity, what games were dying to play but didn't as a result of them being published by EA? Just asking because its easy to boycot someone when you have  no/little interest in their current line up.

Also I don't think they're what would be considered a "cancer". WHen people don't like the direction a game goes down in, they don't buy it and EA has no choice but to respond. "Dragon Age 2" and "Dead Space 3" are good examples. This is not the same a boycotting though, this is just supporting games you like and avoiding the games you dislike, the publisher is irrelevant. Remember that once you get over the propaganda of EA being the devil, you see that behind these games are in many cases passionate developers. If they produce something of quality it would be a shame not to support them just because EA the publishes it.
