Wii had serious troubles with supply at release... I'm estimating numbers without supply issues.
I don't understand the outlet that runs this rumor,,, why run it when everyone knows it's completely false? when was the last time Sony shipped 16 million a year for one system?
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

I completely agree, the PS4 could only dream of demand like that.
Shutup ! Shutup everyone! .. the demand is that high!
Go for it Sony!! sell a few more buildings while your at it too!
We want PS4! Buying 3 at launch!

Combined change all the things... it is possible and easy. PS3: 11-12 million |
I think you are getting a little too excited here. Manufacturing capacities are pretty limited and these are all brand new chips (for all consoles).
I expect a price around $520 (which will cool off quite a few people)
Japan launch 450'000-500'000 units
US launch 600'000-750'000 units
EU launch 750-950'000 units
Probably 3-3.3 mio units shipped/sold end of march

I only can disagree with the price here... I can't see Sony releasing the PS4 over $450... I expect $400 or $350 for the basic model.

Even then, it would need to have sufficiently compelling content to do this. Early on, systems usually don't have this. They may get a killer app or two, that drives a niche, but usually the library is too small. With the PS4 not being able to play PS3 games natively, and going the streaming route for past content (MONSTER dependent on monster bandwidth), one is hard pressed to do that. Say, even if the PS4 were priced less than the PS3, the PS3's library alone is going to make the masses think twice about picking it over the PS3 itself.
So, I personally just don't see it happening. Maybe ship 16 million and then be always available. That, however, as seen with the WiiU, means people feel less pressured to get one, because they may be gone.
Heck, also have to wonder to, with Sony manufacturing the Vita and PS3 still, if they even have the capacity to push out that many. They will likely have to sideline X% also as they get the system into production and defects show up, which is the norm for about every console, and I don't care how much it resembles a PC either.
pah stupid, they clearly mean 16 Billion in the first 2 hours of launch.
