No. The parodies are hilarious.

It wasn't as funny as RIDGEEEEEE RACERRRRRRRR but yeah that one was fun for the first couple views.

Many in the media had low expectations, and Sony seemingly felt obliged to live down to them. This might come as somewhat of a revelation to you, but the unveiling of the console wasn't any kind of unveiling at all. Sony basically ran a bait and switch on the media in attendance, and frankly I can see why they might not be all that amused about having their time wasted.

Showing the console, announcing the release date, and listing the retail price. Simply aren't optional. They are mandatory when you have asked a lot of people to give you some of their time. These are the most pertinent facts for these people to have left the event with. If Sony expected to get some cheap free press. That was what they got for being cheap themselves.

To add insult to injury Sony didn't do any of the following. They didn't showcase any technology that could be considered revolutionary. The software features they unveiled have already been done before by others. The games they unveiled weren't revolutionary either. In other words it was pretty much a complete bust. Sony just delivered a swag bag full of hot air, and even some of the presentations were derivative of things that had been previously done.

Sony pulled a rush job, and thought the media wouldn't call them out for it. Well a lot of people in the media did, and guess what they ought to have done that. What Sony did was unprofessional. From ripping off the Forza presentation with that Drive Club presentation. I think both those presentations sucked by the way. To having Square on stage when they didn't have a single thing to announce. People ripped on Square for that, but Sony were the ones that let them on stage.

I was tired of the tantrums about this a week ago. Sony had a bad unveil. That kind of stuff happens. It wasn't the first time, and it probably wont be the last. That a company is going to whiff the unveil of a new device. It just wasn't very good. The upside is that Sony has enough time to take a couple more cracks at really doing the whole thing right.

It's no big deal if some people weren't impressed. People have different things that they are impressed by.

Most of those who are Playstations fans came away happy. Specs were discussed in detail, games were shown, promises about the direction the PS4 is headed were presented. These are things that people who are serious about wanting a PS4 were really interested in. Plastic shells and specific dates aren't that important right now, not eight months out, and logic would tell us that it's too soon to announce a price this far from production. It's simply wasn't the right time for these kinds of details and most people with any degree of intelligence will understand why.

Truthfully, most of those complaining about the reveal are people who were looking for any and all reasons they could find to downplay it, or they were people who don't really understand very much about how these things work--neither of which bothers me. If they don't like it, they don't like it; if they don't understand, they don't understand. Most of those that didn't like it were never going to be PS4 owners, and those that didn't understand will forget about all of this in the coming months when the pretty plastic shells are shown off, the dates are confirmed, and the price is set.

In my mind, Sony did what they set out to do. They put to rest most of the rumors, they got Playstations fans excited about the games and the system architecture, and they got the word out that the next generation of Playstation will be here before the end of the year. That was the point of the presentation and I think it succeeded.

This says it all.  Sony did the best thing they could have done, showed that they are mainly focusing on devs, games, and gamers.  They have a machine that is easy to develop on.  They showed more games (the majority of which were core games) than most expected, which showed a clear next gen leap.  Both of these are what will benefit the gamer in the end.  This strategy seems to be appealing to those gamers, as the PS4 vid has 26M+ views and its still growing.

Exceeding expectations doesn't make something immune to criticism. There are always going to be things that could be improved apon, and games media pointing that stuff out isn't being a hater or a fanboy. If anything fanboys should be less sensitive about this shit.

criticism doesn't bother me.  It wasn't perfect by any means, but it definitely exceeded the expectations of those same people because I heard what they expected and it wasn't nearly as much as what was shown.

I don't see how anyone could expect price or release date.  Normally those are reserved for the E3 before a console is released and they shouldn't have expected any different here.  Hell Nintendo didn't reveal those things until September for WiiU.  This was a reveal that included a LOT of software when compared to other console reveals.  They also gave more specifics on features and UI than any media that I saw predicted they would.  Like I said I don't mind criticism of what was shown, but acting like you expected more when I know those same media members predicted far LESS be shown is very unprofessional in my opinion.  They acted like they knew all this stuff was shown and tried to play it down when they should have at least mentioned "Sony showed a lot more than we expected in the weeks and days leading up to this thing" or something to that effect.  Then they could go ahead and criticize the games or features but they acted like their pre-conference predictions were way more than they really were.

They did the right thing in the right way. Going first was important in my view. In addition, they revealed just enough to grab mind share early. There is a lot of buzz about the system now.

People want a bit too much from Sony at this point but the company also has to balance its offerings for the PS3 this year. I thought they did a near perfect job of doing that in their event. Generate some interest but not in such a way that it takes away from the PS3 (exclusives). They will reveal more about the console as time passes.

But remember, no matter what Sony did there would be people complaining. Win lose, lose win ... however you want to see it.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

I would have like it if they made a console that made gameplay unique. I'd like recording my game, it's just not enough. Nintendo brought a touch screen. That's different. That changes my games. Ps4 didn't promise a new experience.

I'm sure it will be fantastic, I'll wait and see.

developers create the new experiences I want.  Changing the way I input stuff into games is not the way I want my experiences changed.  Sorry but Wiis best games for me were the ones where motion was not a focus (Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, DKCR, SSBB, Zelda TP).  The motion crap almost ruined SS for me and I wish they wouldn't put in tech until the latency was gone because it was really annoying holding the wiimote out for 2 seconds before the sword on screen would go out.  Stuff like Heavy Rain, Journey, Uncharted, Infamous, Beyond, Puppeteer, LoU, and other new IP is where I want my innovative ideas to take place in games.  I love that they are cutting latency and dead zones and improving rumble as well as all the ergonomic upgrades on the controller.
