Forums - Sony - Killzone 2 - After the hype

I'll be brief in this because, like always, it's 3:30 AM and I may not be as coherent as I'd like.

I've just started replaying Killzone 2. Got it shortly after luanch, played it close to the end, dropped it, wasn't a very big fan of. Games have come and gone since then and, in boredom, a few days ago I decided I wanted something pretty to play and just waste a couple of hours.

Aaaand...I've found myself greatly enjoying the game, much more than on the first playthrough. The war atmosphere is very well done, I actually really like the overly industrial and rather poverty stricken aspect of the Helghast homeworld, encounters feel meaty and vicious and the shooting is a lot of fun as you're not zooming around like in any other Call of Duty clone. It made me look back a bit and reassert my initial feelings of the game as it seems at the time I was caught up  more in the...I don't know how to explain it...discussions about the game rather than the game itself and may have perhaps paid too much attention to the graphics instead of the whole game.

Killzone 2 feels fresh somewhat to me. It's not groundbreaking, but it feels as if it's a game that got the short end of the stick from me last time and only now I'm judging it on its real worth.

So...after the hype, the fallout and the discussions...what are YOUR feelings on this Sony PS3 Exclusive?

I returned a year after playing it for the first time and enjoyed it much more. Its a Much better game than Killzone 3.

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

killzone 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. it was my first ps3 game, and its still one of the best games i played. it made me love the FPS genre. here is hoping shadow fall is a lot like KZ2

Killzone 2 is definitely one of my favourite shooters. The single player is very challenging on the hardest difficulty without getting unfair (except for that one scene towards the end...). I also enjoyed the Multiplayer a lot, by far the best Online FPS I have ever played. Are the servers still online? If so, I might pop in KZ2 too in the next days.

I enjoyed the game so much, that I even got the Platinum Trophy, which isn't exactly easy to get. But I was pretty disappointed by Killzone 3.

As I'm playing I'm being reminded of the dozen Sven Hassel books I've read over the years, in some regards. Sure, Rico fucks up the illusion badly, but it's still there.

The fire fights in KZ2 where epic, still get flash backs of Visari square and the AI was perfect.

It's mediocre and clunky in my book.

The controls are sluggish and unresponsive, level design is unremarkable.

I bought the PS3 for Killzone 2 and really enjoyed the multiplayer. Didnt care much for the Story. Killzone 3 was a let down though.

It's very underrated. One of a few FPS games that you know actually captures what war should feel and be like.

I'm not a big fan of FPS to tell you the truth. I decided to give Killzone 2 a go a few months ago. I walked away amazed. The campaign was FUN, especially on the higher difficulties. Because of that I intend to get the first game (although it is flawed), Killzone Liberation for the PSP and Killzone 3. And of course, I'll get KZ Merc for the Vita and Shadow Fall for the PS4 when they launch respectively.
