Nintendo fans aren't part of the 8th gen. They have gen 7.5 all to themselves and therefore no valid opinion to share?

You will probably still have to deal with your cable company. If its anything like the 360 you will pay for your cable through a normal company, download an app on your next box put in your cable info, and than have access to the programming through your next box. But depending on how its done you may not need to pay for use of a cable box, or you pay per month for the box and less upfront.

Oh, so it's going to be more like TiVo than a replacement service?

kind of. I never used tivo. Basically instead of paying 15.99 or 9.99 a month to rent your cable box from your cable company you will use a next box instead. If you have a 360 right now you can test it out if you have verizon fios or time warner cable i believe. It is limited right now though in selection and does not offer dvr. Onething I hope they add is voice controls for it, like they have for netflix.
Will they come by to install their cable too? Or have a coaxial input and contract with my cable provider?
Otherwise no point as my current provider has a cap on the bandwidth.

you're clever up until you think you're clever.
I was referring to sales2099 specifically targetting one group.
(Not that nintendo users can use that option liberally)

Seems like sound strategy - though I prefer Sony more, I do believe this would bring in more consumers, hence giving them "victory".

I see. Well, I guess that's a bit of a benefit if you're already paying for Live. Just expanding the service to do more, increasing the value.
I was hoping for a replacement though. I thought they were meant to compete with the cable companies; not partner them. My mistake.
More I read about it the more amazing it sounds, especially if you can really replace a cable box with the console. Then if they release the new console with a contract where you pay $200 and then $15 a month for a group of XBLG subscriptions and other stuff similar to what they did with the 360 contract deal, then most people who have cable service would essentially be paying $200 for a next gen console. Because that $15 a month you pay as part of the contract can just replace the money you give the cable company every month.
And then after that 2 year deal is up (assuming it's 2 years like the 360 offer) that money you save every month can then start eating into the money you paid for the console. Within 3-4 years after launch, it can actually be making you money. At $200 a pop with that quick of a return on the investment, it could be worth it to snag 2-3 of the consoles to replace your cable boxes.
edit, lol @ almost 40 of the votes going to games and only games. I hope none of those people have PS3's or want a PS4.
