I'm extremely interested in saying to hell with the cable company. I really hope this service comes to fruition and offers a comparable experience.

You will probably still have to deal with your cable company. If its anything like the 360 you will pay for your cable through a normal company, download an app on your next box put in your cable info, and than have access to the programming through your next box. But depending on how its done you may not need to pay for use of  a cable box, or you pay per month for the box and less upfront.

Oh, so it's going to be more like TiVo than a replacement service?

kind of. I never used tivo. Basically instead of paying 15.99 or 9.99 a month to rent your cable box from your cable company you will use a next box instead. If you have a 360 right now you can test it out if you have verizon fios or time warner cable i believe. It is limited right now though in selection and does not offer dvr. Onething I hope they add is voice controls for it, like they have for netflix.
