Actually made avoiding Blue Shells a real possibility. Unfortunately, I have to doubt this also since I believe the Wii U only supports one gamepad, so that wouldn't be fair to the other players. Come to think of it, what purpose would gamepad serve in this game? I could also ask the same of SSB. Perhaps they wont support it at all, though I find that hard to believe since it's the Wii U's main thing, but then again SSBB didn't use motion controls despite them beings the Wii's thing. Hmm, so much to think about here. :O |
They said they are going to use the GamePad controller for more then just displaying eagle view like shown Mario Kart DS & 7.
Plus Nintendo also said that Wii U games will do 2 GamePad controllers when only displaying 2D sprites on the bottom screen, since 2D sprites don't look nay better in 1080p then they do in 720p, so it wouldn't make a difference anyways.
So it seems that there will be 2 GamePad controllers to use in Mario Kart U.
Plus with a firmware update they can make it do 4 different 1080p images someday......they are increasing loading times of the game disc dramatically with the Summer update as well as the previous spring update.

Ah, then I'll be very interested in seeing what they do with it. Also, two gamepads still isn't enough for the maximum of four players, though I suppose you can just use the gamepads only when you have 2 or less players. Did Nintendo say whether we'd ever be able to use 4 gamepads or not? |
Well Nintendo did confirm that on pre-install firmware the Wii U plays 3D Ready games and can use 2 GamePad controllers. And later on someone from Nintendo went into detail about the 2 GamePad controllers saying that it will be use for games that only display 2D sprites on the bottom screens.
And Nintendo has said repeatedly that in Mario Kart U they want to do more with the GamePad controller then just displaying a map only, like DS & 7 did.
About 4 GamePads with a firmware update, well I figured with how much they have increase loading time speed for game disc that they can clearly do the same for the other CPU functionalities. Plus the CPU is 3 to 4 cores and underclock around 1.25 GHz a core from 3GHz or so a core on pre-install firmware. And Nintendo has included firmware updates on 1st party retail games with the 3DS, so why not with Wii U retail games coming with their own firmware update for such specific functionality.
