I was hoping my comments would lead the discussion to be more about the games (and the fact that games on both systems look great) as a sign of my point about performance, but unfortunately I saw more discussion of my credibility.

So I thought I would add more detail to what I said the other day, that perhaps people can debate those individual merits instead of making personal attacks. This should hopefully dismiss the notion I'm simply creating FUD or spin.

I do want to be super clear: I'm not disparaging Sony. I'm not trying to diminish them, or their launch or what they have said. But I do need to draw comparisons since I am trying to explain that the way people are calculating the differences between the two machines isn't completely accurate. I think I've been upfront I have nothing but respect for those guys, but I'm not a fan of the mis-information about our performance.

So, here are couple of points about some of the individual parts for people to consider:

• 18 CU's vs. 12 CU's =/= 50% more performance. Multi-core processors have inherent inefficiency with more CU's, so it's simply incorrect to say 50% more GPU.
• Adding to that, each of our CU's is running 6% faster. It's not simply a 6% clock speed increase overall.
• We have more memory bandwidth. 176gb/sec is peak on paper for GDDR5. Our peak on paper is 272gb/sec. (68gb/sec DDR3 + 204gb/sec on ESRAM). ESRAM can do read/write cycles simultaneously so I see this number mis-quoted.
• We have at least 10% more CPU. Not only a faster processor, but a better audio chip also offloading CPU cycles.
• We understand GPGPU and its importance very well. Microsoft invented Direct Compute, and have been using GPGPU in a shipping product since 2010 - it's called Kinect.
• Speaking of GPGPU - we have 3X the coherent bandwidth for GPGPU at 30gb/sec which significantly improves our ability for the CPU to efficiently read data generated by the GPU.

Hopefully with some of those more specific points people will understand where we have reduced bottlenecks in the system. I'm sure this will get debated endlessly but at least you can see I'm backing up my points.

I still I believe that we get little credit for the fact that, as a SW company, the people designing our system are some of the smartest graphics engineers around – they understand how to architect and balance a system for graphics performance. Each company has their strengths, and I feel that our strength is overlooked when evaluating both boxes.

Given this continued belief of a significant gap, we're working with our most senior graphics and silicon engineers to get into more depth on this topic. They will be more credible then I am, and can talk in detail about some of the benchmarking we've done and how we balanced our system.

Thanks again for letting my participate. Hope this gives people more background on my claims.

Thing is and I'm not knocking albert is that he and Major Nelson were saying there were things in the X1 that we don't understand, but yet he goes and posts this with the exact fucking things we've known for a while.  Is this supposed to be the stuff that closes the gap?  I'm not buying it and like everyone else I will wait for the games to show us the power gap.

yeah its one thing to like and discuss a company, heck its even normal to be defensive about it. but trolling like this dude is just sad. the Nintendo fan base mostly hate me because they think i just troll nintendo. when reality is is that i think they went from an amazing company to a company that is well... producing overrated games, and some of them are just shit. ill call them out a lot, they are just completely out of touch. but i wont bash them just for the sake of doing it. i dont care if my opinion is considered bashing, ill just lay it out as i see it. though when talking to nintendo fan on the site i do so with respect, and usually just joke with them.

when i want to troll, ill just troll this nation and the PS vita

Ain't that the truth! :-p

i been really loyal to sony for a long time... well basically because their products were always awesome. i bought their walkman phones back in the day and they were nothing short of amazing. the PS1 and PS2 were crazy good as well. basically i have never bought a sony product and got burned i cant say that with other companies. i have a samsung phone, and well, its SHIT. so i wont be buying samsung again. i bought 2 toshiba laptops and they both died on me due to the same reasons. never buying a toshiba again. however, i have a lenovo laptop thats great, it has its flaws as all products due, but its still amazing. so ill be loyal to them because they gave me a quality product. ill be going back to sony with my next phone as my brother has the Xperia Z and tells me its killer. basically Sony always produces quality and thats why i stick with them. if they start making shit products ill certainly stop buying them, but i just dont see that happening.

Exactly why I have stuck with them and will continue to do so. I've had a Walkman since I was 5 and I kept the brand from tape players to disc players and now the MP3. I've had Sony phones and they worked well. Playstation, Vaio and Bravia have all been good to me. Like you, I own a Samsung and that fucker is more annoying than my lady friend when she's riding the crimson wave on a bad day. Never again! I'm going with the Xperia next time. Even so, I'm not going to troll for them like these Nintendo dudes lol But I'll defend them why I find they're unjustly assalted for the sake of discussion, and call them out when they mess up, but not like some fuckin fanatic (a la Zero).

samsung phones are just shit, i honestly hate mine. honestly after this burn i doubt ill be buying a samsung product for a long while, specially when there is always an alternative when i want to buy one of their products (phone, headphones, tv) its not like they make something that is a "must buy" for me like a gaming console. and dont bash our second mutual friend, his banns are entertaining as much as his pathatic cry for attention in his silly posts

Dear Mr. Penello,

Until you can make a 2D fighting game that's not technically impressive run in a resolution higher than 720p without losing 60 frames per second I'm afraid anything you have to say about how awesome your console is will be found irrelevant.

Best Wishes,
Raven722

ugh, I've stopped reading for now and I need to stop posting here so I can finish my stupid last english blog prompt.  Anyway I think by now most hardcore day one console buyers are gonna know you can't add RAM peaks together.
