Yea Ascension I think is the one that has most divided fans. I actually enjoyed it, quite a lot. The combat was by far the best for me, and it was very challenging. That was the first time I beat a GOW game on Titan and walked away with a true sense of accomplishment. But I will admit, it is a flawed game. The story is ho hum and the MP, while not terrible, did not interest me beyond the second week of its release. I kept playing the SP. I love how the enemies respond to you in this one, even in the early parts of the game. In GOW3 I was a little bored after the fight with the first boss since the enemies were combo sponges. It was towards the end the challenge started ramping up. The next game, in my view, should marry the combat in Ascension and merge it with the completeness of either GOW 2 or 3.

Yes, it needs a rest. Too many GOW games have been released spanning 3 major Sony platforms. I'm not sure if I want a new character, but I will trust what ever SSM has in store for us. If that means a new character in a new setting then I am all for it. I just don't want them to continue stretching the current storyline. They pushed as far as they could go with the last one, and clearly they were faced with diminishing returns.
