Sony commented, indeed. It is 5.5GB available to games. That 1GB that DF said was flexible is all for GAMES as well. I could not explain how it works, but that's what they said. So the OS takes 2.5GB.

UPDATE #2: Sony has issued a statement:

We would like to clear up a misunderstanding regarding our "direct" and "flexible" memory systems. The article states that "flexible" memory is borrowed from the OS, and must be returned when requested - that's not actually the case.

The actual true distinction is that:

  • "Direct Memory" is memory allocated under the traditional video game model, so the game controls all aspects of its allocation
  • "Flexible Memory" is memory managed by the PS4 OS on the game's behalf, and allows games to use some very nice FreeBSD virtual memory functionality. However this memory is 100 per cent the game's memory, and is never used by the OS, and as it is the game's memory it should be easy for every developer to use it.

We have no comment to make on the amount of memory reserved by the system or what it is used for.

@nnodley: lol. Will it be a failure in concept or execution? Both? Neither? (so meta)

I have total faith this update will be amazing!!!

New update about the PS4 RAM allocations.  Not from sony but from 2 of the insiders on gaf.  They can get things wrong so don't take it as gospel.  Anyway one of them, Thuway, hinted in his post that it's gonna be 6GB for games and tried to make it seem like it was his opinion.  Then another insider, BruceLeeRoy, commented saying Thuway dropped the number and that none of Bruce's sources would let him say anything.  So if they are correct we are now looking at a 6/2 split.  Is better than 5 and 5.5, but won't set the world on fire though with helping increase graphics by much.

Some Puppeteer screenshots.  Can't leave out the ps3.

Transistor (I'm biased)

If Killzone M is the nearest PS exclusive to be released then I vote that. As far as Vita exclusives go I'm most interested in that one. Puppeteer as well because it looks great and I don't think it will get the hype it deserves.

EDIT

I just remembered Dragon's Crown should release before KZ:M, albeit it is not a platform specific exclusive since it will be available on both PS3 and PSV. Ah well ... I put forward those three and if only one can be accepted then KZ:M it is.
