Forums - Sales - Global UP! 23rd February 2013 (Global Software added)

Well, they didn't waste any time after Media. Create went up. Thanks Criss!

Vita above Wii-U in Europe. Kinda surprising how poorly Wii-U is doing over here.

Vita absolutely awful in USA though. Everything is, really, except Xbox360.

I'm really interested in seeing NPD numbers for this month. I hate to be that guy, but I just don't get 3DS sales in North America. I know it's not some kind of blockbuster, but Fire Emblem opened to a very nice 170k, and it's already the bestselling retail game on the NA eShop, even beating New Super Mario Bros. 2. Last year Resident Evil opened to 86k sales, and 3DS got a 17% boost; Kid Icarus opened to 95k and 3DS got an 11% boost; why did it drop 6% the week of Fire Emblem's release? Why is it still under 20k?

I accept the figures, but I don't understand them. I'm hoping we're in for some upward adjustments next month, because this is just bizarre to me.

wats NPD numbers?

NPD - Nationaldemokratische Partei Deutschlands (nationaldemocratic party of germany). Obviously NPD numbers tell you how many voters they have :P

3DS starting to head down, a lot more quickly than most of the other console drops. It will soon fall into the 100-110k territory, I can't believe that some think it will manage 50 million by 2013's end.

Honestly, 3DS will survive on the strength of Japan alone. It has several major releases coming this week, so its sales will get a good boost, and the games will keep coming. By the end of March we'll have Luigi's Mansion, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, Castlevania, Monster Hunter... I don't think it'll fall below this week's numbers any time soon. Maybe for a week in mid-March it'll be a bit lower, but I doubt below 120k.

50m is certainly a stretch at best and inconceivable at worst. 45m is more reasonable. Don't underestimate Pokémon.

NPD is a research group that tracks sales in the USA. Their methods are a bit more reliable than VGChartz. Their data comes out after the end of each month, and VGChartz usually adjusts its numbers to reflect those provided by NPD.

About 10 days to 2 weeks after the month ends.

So expect them in the vicinity of March 8-15.

i don't understand it either.  i have my "goalpost chartz" thread and right around last NPD vgchartz drastically adjusted 3DS down post holidays.  by drastically i mean divide by 2 or more from the previously reported january numbers. i don't know what information ioi found apparently he believe 3DS fell of the side of a cliff this january.  looking at the trend i find it hard to believe it was drop so significantly after having a really good holiday (which was adjust up btw).

The 3DS was overtracked significantly in the US for January.  VGC had it at 226k, while NPD numbers were between 126k-149k.

Vita outsold WiiU in Japan?

Nintendo and Sony should release a new console handheld: PS3DS
