Yes it affects everyone, but me it would actually affect in a positive way. I never buy used games, so if they blocked used games more revenue would go towards building new games instead of the pockets of Gamestop by recycling old games.

For some real lulz I hope just one of either Sony or MS goes forward with this idea but not the other one. That would cause meltdowns.

I actually do buy used games from time to time...mostly when I want to try a game I don't think I will enjoy much. My issue with used games is the pricing set by retailers like gamestop. Buy new for $60..buy used for $55!!? lol what BS. But yeah I don't want the next gen systems to be anti used. I have trouble thinking sony will go this route because the used games market is HUGE in JP.

Gamers shouldn't support this, they also shouldn't support "pay to play online", the former is a much bigger deal though, this is very stupid.... and where's the money going to? More linear cinematic QTE projects, no thanks!

Long live the Wii U if Sony and MS pull this shit off >_>

Oh, so that's why game sales have no legs in Japan! I always wondered about that.

Yep that's one of the biggest reasons. Gamers in JP would be really ticked off if they go with anti used

The problem isn't used games, it's used games revenue going 100% to someone other than the publisher/developer.

I think the solution is to be able to sell your games back to the publishers who can then sell them used at a discount.  Everybody wins!

Well, except Gamestop ...

Xbox 720 will feature watermarked discs:

Sony's stance on second-hand games working on PlayStation 4 'isn't clarified just yet' admits Fergal Gara, Managing Director Of PlayStation UK.

The admission came during our PS4 interview with Gara, when we asked that following confirmation that second-hand games won't be blocked on PS4 [Source: EuroGamer], if Sony ever considered going down that route.

"Well first of all, we haven’t stated that second-hand games… we haven’t made a statement on the second-hand games question," answered Gara. "There was a lot of reaction to a patent that was filed, which is a matter of course for a technology business like us, to file various patents at various times, many of which many never see any application but they are good to have depending on ideas that might be building."

"So what we’re here to do is offer the best value and the best gaming experience for gamers," he continued. "The answer to the pre-owned question isn’t clarified just yet and we’re working through that and we’ll announce our position in more detail as and when we can."

So it seems that second-hand games being blocked on PlayStation 4 could very much still happen.
