Forums - Sony - PS4: Second-Hand Games Block Back On? Sony Says Stance 'Isn't Clarified Yet'

cannonballZ said:
Interesting. Wasn't there an article that said used games not blocked on ps4 confirmed?

Think they said that Sony won't block used games but inside the PS4 there is a program for 3rd parties to use if they want to block their games.

In other worlds pretty much every game will be blocked  :)

politics 1 0 1

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

I always buy new, so no big deal.

I guess it makes a ton of business sense to block them, but Sony is weighing the fan basklash, seeing if its worth a damn to address.

do you sell games?

do you play games with your friend's house?

do you trade games with your friends?

have you ever received a used game?

have you ever given a used game?

if you say yes to any of it... it affects you in a way

The head of PlayStation Uk isn't as informed as the boss of SCE Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida, he said they're not blocked, he's not gonna lie about it.

Developers will see huge drops in new game sales as well.

The majority of all trade in credit is used towards the purchase or pre order of new games.

Litteraly the entire industry in NA will collapse

Gamestop and game rental outlets will collapse.  The entire industry will not (and yes, I did sense some hyperbole in your statements).

The used game industry has been a large part of the industry for the last 2 gens.  Before that, games sold just fine.

My opposition to it is that I live with my boyfriend and we're both gamers in our own right, and I don't agree with needing to buy every game twice or else to play it on the same profile. That stinks and it's exactly what's going to happen with digital-only or a pre-owned block. Plus I never play co-op (ever) so the two copies for MP doesn't apply to me.

Not sure how it'll work on the ps4, but wouldn't game sharing fix that problem for you? Plus, I can still find new most games I want online no matter how old they are.

I share games with my best friend and I can play them with my account.

Ah, I'm not sure how non-physical game sharing works I only finally replaced my PS3 a couple of months back and I've never done anything like that on xbox. Thanks for the info though, how do you go about game sharing? If we're going off-topic feel free to take this to wall/messages if you like.

No offense taken.  Mature people can respectfully disagree, but I sadly get why you felt the need to clarify it.

Ok, explain.  If people can't trade their old games in for new games or preorders, the industry in NA will collapse?  How and why?
