I hope this is just execu-speak. If both Sony and Microsoft walk down this lonely road, I will not follow them.

To me it is also not much important if I buy digital or disc but they have to change prices much faster. When I bought my copy of GoW3 it was at 70 (!) euros at XBL-Marketplace, Amazon sold it under 30 Euros. They have to make digital sales attractive to users what I don't see by now.

If both do it then it won't hurt either of them as much, but I'd really hate that.

I still hope they don't do it, but at least this is somewhat less of an issue with every game being made available digitally day and date with the retail release.
I always buy new, so no big deal.
I guess it makes a ton of business sense to block them, but Sony is weighing the fan basklash, seeing if its worth a damn to address.

Are they waiting for MS move? |
Either that or they're waiting until as late as possible to spring the bad news because they know it will dominate all PS4 talk. Look how much just the rumor about the next Xbox having this restriction has hijacked people's feellings about it. Sony is not stupid.
The big question is who will admit it first ... ?

They're stalling as long as possible in the hopes of seeing MSes hand.
My prediction is that we'll end up with all second hand games having an online pass of sorts

I honestly cannot see Microsoft blocking used games unilaterally (due to consumer backlash), but if both Microsoft and Sony block used games together, I can't help but think that consumers would be more likely to accept it. Playing the bulk of my games on PC has sort of made me forget about used/rental gaming (in addition to buying MS, Sony, and Nintendo exclusives new), but I imagine that this is a huge deal for some console-only gamers, or simply gamers who like to borrow or rent.
Sony did say it was apparently up to developers and publishers....either way we are screwed.
