This somes it up well.
One thing to add they really dropped the ball in Australia.
Still no Madden, Ninja Gaiden and other launch games that US got. Not even a release date jsut a TBA.

Yes, this is true but I do not think it is the same with wii u as it was (and still is) for the 3DS.
The 3DS has one direct competitor and a very weak one at that. The handheld market is Nintendo's kingdom. Somehow I knew that eventually the 3DS would pull through from it's weak - but still far better than the wii u - launch.
The wii u have a far stiffer fight on its hands and brings nothing as "revolutionary" as the wii did with it's remote. The x360 and the PS3 are NOT THE PSP (or Vita). They are far more fearsome beasts.
The wii u controller has not been met with the same wow factor as the wii remote and it's reported to be no more powerful than the current gen. Third party is again looking poor.
I am a big Nintendo fan and I hope they recover but right now I don't see Mario and the like rescuing the wii u anymore than they did the gamecube, actually I think the gamecube had it far easier as the xbox was a new unknown.
Just my thoughts.

If they are doing their job correctly, this could be a good thing and they could learn some better techniques for selling systems. |
I thought they had learned from the 3DS launch?
I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!
Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

What they took from the 3DS launch and what they are probably taking from the Wii U launch are different things.

Seems pretty clear to me it's the same lesson...

I think what Nintendo got out of the 3DS launch was more pricing, and the Wii U launch had some pretty decent games put out. It's just that it wasn't quite the right ones and not enough as well. That's what it looked like to me, and from some of the interviews it really seems like what Nintendo thought.

Hey, I love the Wii U launch line up - but they're still in a drought, and THAT'S the problem, THAT'S what they should have learned: put out games after the launch and don't leave the console to dry out in the sun - give it a constant flow of games (eShop titles don't count in this instance).

I guess I would say that Nintendo had a lack of a back-up plan because a good chunk of games got delayed, leaving the Wii U with that drought.

That's true, but wouldn't January and February still have been pretty barren? There's some multiplat Nintendo could have needed...

Yeah, but relative to the other systems, it probably would have been able to keep up in sales at least instead of being at the 30k per week range.
