Cliff Bleszinski, the former Epic Games design director and creator of the Gears of War franchise, believes that Nintendo could well become a software only company in the next few years. Bleszinski says that the state of the entire games industry is currently in turmoil and both Sony and Microsoft are about to come to major blows. Here’s what he had to say.

“This business has not been in a state of transition like it is right now since the video game crash of the ’80s. I really think we’re in a massive state of turmoil. I think Nintendo could possibly be faced with the situation of becoming a company that only makes software moving forward. I think Sony and Microsoft are about to come to major blows. But at the same time, people love playing games on their iPad. The PC is going through a wonderful renaissance right now. I think we’re ready to do digital download games all the time…I just want to see what happens. In regards to the industry, it’s like the Super Smash Bros. of business right now, and I want to see if Peach or Mario wins.”

i would say that Nintendo has the hw sales secured at a minimum of 20m, which is what GC did
Nintendo sw is very strong, and pushes hw a lot, so i dont see Nintendo failing on hw enough to quit

It's funny that no one remembers Nintendo saying that they don't want to become a SW only company. I also feel that if anyone were to go down, Nintendo would be the last. They wouldn't go down easily, either. They would be kickin'!

Yeah, sure. Epic ceasing to exist is more likely than Nintendo going SW only^^

If Nintendo was only able to sell 20 million home consoles every 5 years going forward I think they would find a way to make it profitable and continue doing that.

Their handheld business isn't going anywhere any time soon, even in the face of the smart phone and tablet generation.

My post is about when he says that Nintendo could possibly become a software company only. Your post is simply about him talking of another possible video crash which could make Nintendo go software only (But that's not the main subject of your OP). This post is to discuss solely of what we think about the possibilities of them going SW only.
