Forums - Microsoft - Square's Ian Livingstone talks next-gen; hints at always-on, used game-blocking Xbox

Supposedly? it sounds like he is commenting on rumours than actually confirming anything.

This.

A comment based on a rumor, guys. A rumor that quite simply WILL NOT be true because it cannot be true. It would alienate too many people out there with slow or no internet access.

Holy crab if thats true.

Even if that's true, can't Ms change that if they see that gamers don't respond well to it? I think the more people express their opinion against this online, the more likely it is that ms will change their minds. I think rumours are a good strategy to see how consumers react/respond to an idea, especially when it comes to hardcore gamers who frequent gaming sites.

If Microsoft does this, I think they'll be able to pull it off. America loves that kind of stuff.

Don't care; never buy used. Too risky.

Ive bought plenty of used games from retailers such as Game (UK) and they're always in great condition, you honestly cant tell the difference between it and new one. In what way is it risky?

besides, i'm sure someone will crack the code

Yeah, I NEVER buy used games.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

Yeah, Doesn't really bother me. I don't like buying used after seeing all these developers close down.

Neither would bother me tbh. Never buy used (well I think I have twice in 20 years) and am always online anyway. Isn't everyone always online?

Shouldn't you be worried more about the bad PR and image this kind of manuever would create?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

If these rumours are so prevalent that MS's own devs believe them, MS needs to come out and deny them. They are extremely damaging in light of confirmation that PS4 will not. We are far past the 'we do not comment...' stage of PR.

The fact they have not done this increases the likelihood they are true.
