Forums - Gaming - Is the graphic leap to 8th gen as noticeable as previous leaps?

6th-7th vs 7th-8th, how do they compare?

It's a much bigger leap 45 7.17%

It's a somewhat bigger leap 47 7.48%

It's a similar leap 119 18.95%

It's a somewhat smaller leap 202 32.17%

It's a much smaller leap 214 34.08%

Timmah and S. Peelman is really getting it out of everybody here. NO ONE is saying the PS4 is weaker or on par with the Wii U (let alone PS360). It's just that the difference will be a WHOLE lot smaller compared to what it was like the previous generation. There was nothing on the PS4 conference that obliterated the top tier games of the current generation. The difference between top tier PS360 games and what was shown in the PS4 conference is actually likened to SSBM for GCN and SSBB for the Wii at the moment! Yes the PS4 looked really nice, but it was disappointing because it wasn't Wii to PS360 difference between PS360 and PS4 (let alone Wii U)!!! Though it might start changing once 2nd and 3rd gen PS4/720 starts showing up. That is just the reality of things in my humble opinion!!!

People can flash their genitalia (show screenshots) as much as they like.

Genesis/SNES -> PS1/Saturn = Massive
PS1/Saturn -> PS2 = Massive
PS2/GC/Xbox -> PS3/Xbox360 = Not Massive
PS3/Xbox360 -> PS4/NextBox = Not Massive

It's hard to be impartial though, fond memories will always be fond memories, whereas memories from last week won't be fond.

Fact :p

Proof is that GT4 was still fun on the PS2 even after playing Forza 2 on the Xbox 360.

Super Hang on was not fun after playing Manx TT on the Sega Saturn. (though quite enjoy it for bit of nostalgia nowadays)

It's a leap yes, but as big as the earlier gens. That's my point of view. :/

The fact that there is a discussion about this matter points otherwise doesn't it?  Guess 70% of gamers really don't see much of a noticeble diffrence is enough!!!

Definitly not. Last gen you could actually see the improvement in the polygon models themselves. This gen it seems more like better textures, particle effects, and draw distances.

I'd like to ask a different question. If you don't think it is as large of a leap, did you watch the killzone, driveclub, and other game footage in SD or did you watch them in HD?

Also for a fun game I have four pictures of car games from the pre PS4 era. Just take a quick sec and say which platform it looks like off the top of your head. I know this is really easy to cheat at but that isn't the point. Also I fully admit to resizing and reshaping the pictures to manipulate your opinion.

1.

2.

3.

4.

All we have right now is alpha code of PS4 games. Killzone is easily the most graphically impressive game shown at the meeting, and it will improve exponentially by the time it is released.

"Alpha" code? Better don't talk of things you are not firm with - if it was alpha-code you wouldn't see such graphics. Killzone is impressive but in no way "alpha"-code - this would mean it will release next year, simple as that. And what are you talking about exponential growth? Do you really want ppl to dig out this post when the game releases? Do you still believe it will do wonders to have 8 gb RAM instead of 4?

I can understand that you are hyped for PS4 and the new graphics but don't get too hyped unless you want to be a bit disappointed. Graphics will see a significant leap and will improve next years as the engines evolve and will use the hardware better but for 1st-gen-release titles don't expect wonders.

This game has been in development for years. Where did development start? On PC. Believe it or not, developing on final hardware will give them huge advantages like optimization. There are reports that this demo was made with only 1.5GB of RAM.

Before you comment any further, keep in mind that more RAM allows for higher-resolution textures, better animations, larger worlds...you name it. There is a reason developers are praising the PS4 and why 8GB of GDDR5 is a big deal.

So you name a game that "has been in development for years" in alpha-stage? Jesus! And yes, the PS4-RAM is magic, sure, but that won't make KZ2 a better game and it won't have better graphics than shown so far. And don't tell me what RAM can do as I know what it can (and instead of you also know what it can't).

But let time tell us! Peace, brother :)
