Forums - Nintendo - The Witness Indie Wii U Release is Unlikely

Tagged games:

Weird statement as I remember after the Sony conference one of the witness people (not sure who) said the game will be timed exclusive to PS4 and will make it's way to nextbox and Wii U.

Sounds like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing lol.

Its as Criterion (dev) said. Developers just saw GHZ of the WiiU cpu etc. and didnt get it. Criterion had no problem to port the Highest PC textures available to the NFS WiiU version. The console punches above its league.

They clearly said people heard about the MHZ of the CPU and turned their backs on the console. Or they thought "lets just to whatever we can without any effort so it at least runs".

Criterions best argument tho was something like this:
"People should invest time and money they should care about what they are doing they should put some effort into it or dont bother doing it at all" (not a real quote I just wrote down how I remembered it)

And the Witness DEV clearly cant be bothered to invest some time and money. Lazy people.

Btw: What is the witness lol What type of game/genre/ etc?

Its a puzzle game, looks kind of interesting but I probably wouldn't play it.

I find this a little confusing. I've seen the game. It doesn't look all that impressive, graphically. It's coming out for iPhone as well, so last gen consoles should have no problem running it.

So, the Wii U Can't run a downloadable game? Holy Jesus!!!

What's that got to do with anything?! The medium is irrelevant!

I disagree with those who say that the game doesn't look impressive, and I'm sure that 7th gen consoles and the Wii U can't handle it as it was shown. But that's not the reason for not porting it.

Indie games are usually not optimized very well. While Braid was great, it never looked like a very demanding game. Still, When they released the PC version, they had a lot problems to make it work even with powerful graphic cards. Only after a few months and multiple patches, people was able to run it on medium-end desktop GPUs, and high-end laptops.

I guess they don't want to go through all that mess again...

I'm not sold on the PS4, but The Witness is a first-day buy to me (on Steam).

Yup. PC as well, unless something's changed.

Thats pretty stupid then if it cant run on the WiiU but can run on an iPhone :/

No. Jonathan Blow said that they have a limited-time exclusivity deal with Sony that applies to competing console platforms (Wii U, Next Xbox). That doesn't mean they will actually port it, just that they can't do it after some time since the release of the PS4 version.

He also said there was no money involved in the deal. But that's kind of a lie, because advertisement like that of the conference would have cost them a lot.

Indeed. It'll be even dumber if the thing can run on the iPhone 4s. The only reason I see that this thing isn't releasing for Wii U is that it's more expensive and more difficult to release on several systems at once, and the PS4 is apparently a peace of cake to dev for. I'd complain, but they are a small developer, so we can't expect too much from them.

It's too bad, because The Witness would have fit perfectly with the Wii U's controls.

I believe they had some kind of timed exclusive deal with sony. Last I heard they kind of implied it was coming to the Wii U down the line

Games are fun.
