Forums - Gaming - Game prices not rising next generation

PlayStation 4 game prices will run the gamut from one dollar to sixty, SCEA CEO Jack Tretton has revealed. "We're going to welcome free-to-play models, games from $.99 up to those $60 games," Tretton revealed in a CNBC interview.

Tretton also responded to the fact that we didn't actually get to see the PS4during the unveiling event earlier this week, even though Sony told us all about the innards. Tretton says it was more important for Sony to show the concepts behind the system than to make a big deal out of the hardware itself – excluding the DualShock 4, obviously.

"You're going to see some of the greatest games ever created and the consumer is going to have more ease of use, the ability to sample games before they buy them and have more breadth of games than they've ever seen before," Tretton said of the PlayStation 4 during the segment. He also clarified that while Holiday 2013 is the official launch window for the PS4, "the promise is out for Holiday 2013, so pre-Christmas."

As I have confirmed. At least on our platform.

Edit: didn't see the other thread. go ahead and lock.

I don't think they had much of a choice, with the way the game industry is.

So in other words bankcruptcy will be a even more common word 2014 and beyond.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

They would be screwing themselves over if they raised the prices. Glad they aren't that stupid.

If a game is good I'll drop that 60. In fact I'll pre-order months in advance if it looks/feels good. However, if you're giving me an Aliens CM or a DmC with a truck load of technical issues like screen tearing and framerate hiccups then they'll be lucky to get 19.99 from me (well the latter at least. Games like ACM I would never buy).

Thought I wonder if that means they'll try to nickle and dime us in other ways, and if we'll get more bone instead of meat in our campaigns. I won't be surprised if we have to purchase more DLC to experience the 'complete' game.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

And game development isn't really going up much ether. Thankfully devs will be able to make any game they want and sell it at any price from $1-$60
