BC is a thing of the past, I'm afraid. Why give it for free when you can monetize it in other ways?

WiiU and 3DS both have BC

It's about whether you can emulate the previous box. Wii U huge leap forward, easily emulates Wii. PS4 entirely different architecture than PS3, no BC except maybe through Gaikai.

Everyone wishes for BC but unfortunately it isn't always as easy as we'd hope.

Im not saying it is easy or cheap as it has a lot to do witht the hardware and components that they chose.  What I'm saying is it isn't a thing of the past as other companies do use it.  Just because sony doesnt, doesnt mean anything.  I think it is a good and bad move.  it lowers cost but at the same time it is bad because some people want to get rid of there ps3 for the the ps4.

??? WiiU does not emulate Wii, it scales down the processor - in fact, it is (also) a Wii.

Who cares for BC if we have the Cloud.

april huh, i would have expected sooner. this give sony a long time to monopolize the conversation. i hope it is at least early april, i'm excited to see what MS has to offer.

Neato. Did not know this. So is this scaling down of the processor isn't considered hardware emulation?

OT: I'm loving these spaced out announcements. PS4 feb, Durango April, then E3, TGS, console releases. Good year.

I hope in March, the sooner the better. I hope it has Win 8 on it. I wanna use it as a htpc.

I actually wouldn't be surprised AT ALL if MS included a fully functional Windows 8 kernel option.

Want a PC? Want an Xbox? Have both!

Much like the PS3's Linux option, it would not be a system seller, but it would be another backdoor way of MS getting more Windows 8/PC's into living rooms and further progress their plan. The default boot option would be Xbox, but if the option was there to run it as your full Windows PC and access content between the two OS's (Like on Xbox you could play the files you stored on the Windows side and on Windows you could still launch the games or something similar).

Who knows, though. Maybe that is a step too far and they will just use a Win 8 based kernel for the Xbox OS and have a lot of similar functionality, but no direct Win 8 usage.

Sony PR people are so full of shit it just amuses me each time I see a quote from them. All Microsoft has to do is announce backwards compatibility and PS4 will look much less appealing. One day Sony will wake up and realise that this power struggle they are having with Microsoft has done Sony very little good.

i can just tell you love underpowered consoles

No, this is not called emulation :) If you buy a new PC which is faster than the old one it is not emulating the old software or old PC :)
