Xbox 720 announcement in April?

Microsoft reportedly set to reveal next-generation platform at one-off event in April.

Unspecified developers and "industry professionals" have informed CVGthat Microsoft will announce the Xbox 720 at a one-off event in April. This is later than the rumored March event and would notably take place after the 2013 Game Developers Conference.

 

In addition, a "senior Sony official" who asked to remain anonymous told the site that the PlayStation 4 unveiling this week "at first caught Microsoft off-guard." This person added that, "We definitely ruffled some feathers."

Microsoft spokesperson Larry Hryb--aka Major Nelson--took a shot at the PS4 event this week. Writing on Twitter, he said "Well then. This meeting is running a little longer than expected," followed by "Announce a console without actually showing a console? That's one approach."

The PS4 is officially due out this holiday season. Microsoft's Xbox 720 is also believed to launch during this window, though Microsoft has yet to comment on the rumored console.

Yeah I think the PS4 announcement surprised MS (as well as some of the figures for the PS4). Microsoft better bring their A game this gen.

Either way I hope they announce the next Xbox in April at the latest.

How can they catch MS off-guard when everybody knew 3 weeks in advance that Sony were going to announce the PS4? And the upgrade to 8GB was rumored by several outlets like Edge. Seems to me like this is just Sony spreading FUD.

I hope in March, the sooner the better. I hope it has Win 8 on it. I wanna use it as a htpc.

It might be that but the wording conveys otherwise.

I highly doubt you would get a complete W8 experience on that. Most probably just the kernel with modified top layers in a closed system.. it would be smart for it to share the same store as Windows 8/Windows Phone 8, though.

I can wait. Now its just up to MS to sabotage the Chinese facilities that are manufacturing the PS4.



Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Exciting time!
I have brought every Xbox at launch so I hope this will be the same! MS have lost alot of trust from me so they really will have to work hard. I don't want to see a new Halo I want new IPs! (And not FPS) and I will be jumping in! Expensive year
