Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's television shows!

Alright well we all know Nintendo has had a history of creating some of the biggest franchises to rock the entertainment industry since StarWars. These franchises have often lead to hit television series from the Super Mario Bros Super Show, Pokemon , Zelda and of course Donkey Kong! These franchises were all hugely successful on network television on a global scale.

Some series like Donkey Kong and Pokemon were so successful they actually had full length movies made from them. The Pokemon movies went on to spawn over 8-sequals and the TV series remains one of Tokyo TV's heavy hitters and still playing on some of North America's major networks.

Shows like "The Super Mario Bros Super Show" as well as "The Legend Of Zelda" lead the way in the late eighties and early ninties. The franchises both helped DOC become a household name and were the biggest parts of their animation careers. The series today is only now being brought to DVD.

Other series have also graced our television screens from F-Zero to Kirby. But the question is what happened to Nintendo's television aspirations. All of the shows other then still highly successful Pokemon have been dropped. With Kirby Right Back at you re-runs still airing sometimes. Nintendo actually ceased their agreement with Fox and brought the Pokemon franchise inhouse.

So the question is why isn't Nintendo continueing to create and liscense out great television shows. I mean where is my Pikmin Adventures and Animal Crossing television shows. Right as Microsoft recognizes the power of TV with Viva Pinata it seems Nintendo is loosing its touch.

They have been made why isn't Nintendo making them availible. For the first time in a long time I have been feeling like illegally downloading content. What content is that?m Donkey Kong Country the TV series with all the classical releases I have memories of watching that show. But I realized very quickly none of Nintendo's TV shows are actually availible in Canada (Except Pokemon). I have to go to the United States and BestBuy to actually buy any television shows with the Nintendo name on them. Of those TV Shows only Zelda and Mario are actually availible. Where is Kirby, F-Zero and Donkey Kong?

Why isn't Nintendo making any new television shows, why isn't Nintendo making the old ones availible on DVD?

Do you think Nintendo should go back to franchising and liscense their IP's out. Or should Nintendo bring everything inhouse (As it started by terminating its Fox partnership). Nintendo started an inhouse animation studio but why haven't we seen anything?

Do you want to see future Nintendo television shows and related programs availible both on TV and DVD?

don't forget kirby

What, no Captain N? And Donkey Kong didn't have a full length movie. And Kirby is airing "reruns" because the show is over. It had a definite finale already.

Really the only reason there aren't Nintendo shows clogging up the airwaves is because there's no reason to be. They come at a steady pace down the line, F-Zero and Kirby being the most recent. Tracing the line of Nintendo themed shows goes back almost 20 years now, I'm not really sure why you're acting like there's this unholy drought. Really this is what we've gotten:

- Captain N (various series)

- Mario (at least 3 distinctive cartoons and like 3 OVA movies in Japan)

- Zelda (one series)

- Fire Emblem

- Pokemon (neverending)

- Donkey Kong Country

- F-Zero

- Kirby

Really, what's left that deserves it?

Of course, I'm still waiting for something Metroid based myself. And I'm a bit surprised they haven't grabbed Star Fox yet.

Don't remind me of Mother Brain Captain N. I remember watching that show waiting for Samus to pop up and she never did. Somehow she got degraded to making an appearance in the Captain N comic because the guys behind the show "didn't know who she was."

Well you have a point however during the early nintees multiple cartoons were airing at once. Nintendo has been fairly successful in its lines of televisions shows.

To be honest I can drop a long list of IP's that could easily make great cartoon series!

-StarFox

-AnimalCrossing

-MetroidPrime

- Pikmin

- Advance Wars

Not to mention alot of the older series could easily make great comebacks and make the saturday mornings or such.

- Mario

- Zelda

But a large part of it is the lack of DVD's where are the classics how is it with DVD nearly obsolete we only have the Mario Bros and Zelda. Where's Donkey Kong , Kirby and F-Zero? Not to mention us Canadians got ziltch with none of the series asside from Pokemon availible in our great nation!
