So, I watched some key parts of the PS4 unveiling, and it looks like a good machine. The Killzone graphics in particular looked very, very nice, expecially in comparison to what consoles have put out to date. That being said, I just didn't see anything that would justify spending close to $500 for one at launch (and I really wanted to see something that would grab me). To me it's just a PS3 with better graphics and social networking, which is cool, but doesn't justify the projected launch price (IMO). What I'll probably end up doing is, keep the WiiU as my primary console for exclusives (since I'm a big fan of Nintendo's IPs), and just drop around $250 on a graphics card later this year for the PC I already own... that $250 upgrade will probably match or beat the PS4 anyway, at least for the shooters I'd be interested in. This will satisfy my need for a unique gameplay experience & cool exclusives (WiiU), and also placate the graphics whore in me (with the PC) unless Microsoft really wows me with Kinect 2 and their launch titles. I guess what I'm saying is, Nintendo has the unique IPs I like, and I can get the shooter experience & fancy shmancy graphics I want on my PC for a lot less.
That being said, I do like the machine, and I'm surprised that Sony is going with such a powerful (expensive) piece of hardware and not introducing any groundbreaking gameplay ideas... I'm especially surprised they're putting 8GB of GDDR5 in it, that's just nuts!
Of course, Microsoft could still convince me to jump on their bandwagon if the new Xbox has a 'gotta have it now' feature. 'Minority Report' style controls of the media center features via Kinect 2 might just push me over the edge if the price is right. I may end up getting a PS4 at some point, but not until the price comes down a lot. I was hoping for more.
