really it was a good announcement.
we got the specs all confirmed, ms is in a spot from rumoured problems and has to juggle kinect2 and power. What will ms be able to deliver to satiate reviews like these who only care about seeing the console and mobile? gunna be tough.

Yeah that NYT comment sounds as though it was typed out before the conference so they'd say it no matter what.

Its symbolic. It reassures that what they have is final and tangible. Its also a console announcement conference......cmon be honest PS fans would have preferred to see it.

They showed a rock solid console with some very powerful hardware capabilities. How is that such a bad thing? When Nintendo showed the Wii U people complained how it was gimmicky and not strong enough to be called next gen. Now Sony shows a console with no gimmicks and games that pretty much look photo-realistic with great first party and third party support, people are still snickering. Why? I honestly don't understand what people expect from these companies nowadays.

But yeah, I don't know what people were expecting. But looking at the stock drop after the console was announced, it clearly wasn't good enough for many:

It really was a boring show. The only thing the ps4 is is an upgrade. There isn't anything special that makes you want it if you didn't have a ps3

Oh for crying out loud - enough already with innovation - what was so innovative in jump from NES to SNES. Or PS1 to PS2? Or Xbox1 to 360?

It's the games that will define how good this console will do, not yet another gimmick.

Ok.... that would be true... if we had a console at all to see.. unless it´s invisible....

Seriously, what the reaction are pointing is what we´ve been expecting for some time: with the increasing competition of tablets and smartphones, game consoles just can´t continue to be what they are. They must have something different and innovative to draw consumers back. For what we´ve seen so far, neither WiiU, Vita, PS4 have what it takes to avoid videogames to become a niche market again.
