Forums - Gaming - holy shi! ps4 8gb of GDDR5

extremely average piece of hardware, 8GB GDDR5 in itself meant nothing perhaps 4GHz @128bit bus, average piece of hardware say mid end PC nothing more

This thread makes me realize why I don't come on VGchartz that offen anymore. The PS4 is amazing, and has beautiful games. But anyone who thinks it's going to outsell everything has gone mad. I can predict it now, It will be the stronger console of this generation. So was the PS3 and PSP. All im saying is, It is a very good console, and has amazing RAM. Sony outdid themselfs, and I can't wait to hear more. But, don't expect it to cost under 500. And if it does, Sony would be selling it at a loss.

Graphically, it will rival the HD 6950. I am kinda disappointed with the news that its graphical output is 2 Teraflops. For instance, the HD 6950 is at 2.25 TF, and the old HD 5870 is at 2.75 TF. Not sure if it's the graphical leap we were all expecting. The x86, 8 core made sense, as well as the 8GB GDDR5 memory to allow any future features to come when they are developed. No limitations. They did well on this. Just very skeptical on the GPU.

someone here even predicted WiiU to PS4 leap comparable to N64 to XBOX, some Praystation fans are highly deluded

fcuk me, kill zone 4 looks incredible, i really feel bad for those defending the wiiu, nintendo has did them wrong again.

Oh noes, Nintendo is doomed! I mean just look at those mad particle effects!! Haha, honestly, Nintendo fans obviously don't care about graphics. We care about a little thing called gameplay. That's why we're Nintendo gamers and not Sony gamers :P

But seriously, Killzone 4 looks great but didn't even look that noticably better than PS3, let alone Wii U. I wasn't that impressed to be honest. I'll still buy a Wii U over PS4. but enjoy your $699 PS4. Hope those 8 gigs are worth it..

Hmm, a couple of things. Don't get me wrong though, ninjablade's comment was a dubious one at best.

A lot of Nintendo fans care about graphics, have you not noticed the "hey look at these superior visuals on the Wii U version" threads popping up? Need for Speed, black Ops 2, Arkham City and more have these threads and often more than once. Its simply not true that Nintendo fans never care about graphics, and they care a lot more now than before since they have a console that is technically superior to the PS3 and 360 at the moment (allthough I suspect that graphics will no longer matter to these people once the PS4 and nextbox are out). I know a little bit about your tastes but you hardly represent all Nintendo fans, like I said, there are a lot of Nintendo gamers that care about graphics (and certainly more than before now that the Wii U is out).

Also, no games on Sony consoles have great or even good gameplay? Then you're either extremely heavily biased or you haven't tried enough games. The PS1 and PS2 had a slew of fantastic games with great gameplay. Even the PS3, which has a poor overall offering (like the 360 and Wii, in my opinion) has some games with great gameplay. Valkyria Chronicles, Gran Turismo 5, the first inFamous and Little Big Planet, to name a few. Most games (as in more than 51%) on any console don't have very good gameplay, in fact; most games on most consoles aren't very good, period. This includes Nintendo consoles, the Wii has an impressive amount of truly pathetic efforts being passed off as games, same as any market leader.

I think what I'm trying to say is; its not as simple as Nintedo = great gameplay and Sony (and, I suspect, by extension in your eyes) MS = bad gameplay.

Killzone didn't blow me away, it looks rather much like every other shooter I've seen in the past five years or so. There is something to be said for technological advances and great hardware but I do think that most games on the PS4 will be generic setpieces with gloss and shine. And loud noises.

I remember threads like this when the Vita was revealed. PS3, too. But I guess this time it will be different, right guys?

I think it's goodbye PC too:

The PS5 Exists.

Yes I understand that but I really think Sony should have gone maybe 4gb ddr5 for gaming purposes and maybe 4gb ddr3 for everything else. Sure in the long run it may be beneficial but wasn't the cell supposed to be beneficial in the long run too? I'm just thinking that Sony might be digging themselves in a financial hole again. If Durango specs hold true then it is likely that Microsoft can easily launch for $100 less than ps4 which may be fatal. If Sony plays hard ball and decide to match whatever price Microsoft sets then they will lose quite a bit of money for each unit sold.

Fatal?  The PS3 launched for $200 more than the 360 and 1 year later.  1 1/2 years later in EU, one of Sony's most important regions.  How did that turn out?  Sony is about to pass the 360 sometime this year (probably in 2-3 quarters).  So, now we have the PS4 launching the same year as the NeXbox, and it might be $100 more expensive (I'm guessing $50-$75 will be more accurate).  MS doesn't stand a chance in EU and Japan.

Yes it would be fatal. The probably reason. Why they sold a ton of ps3 early anyways was due to the fact that I was the successor to the ps2, the most successful home console of all time. Even with that Sony dug themselves in a hole with that price. Or did you forget the yeary $100 price cut, millions of dollars in the red, the lost market share, etc. I'm sure that even a financial analyst working at Sony would call the ps3 a glorious failure. They did manage to turn it around in the end though. But that doesn't take away from the fact that the ps3 is a failure.
