This is coming from a hardcore Nintendo fan-

Nintendo totally lost. I've tried my best to defend them for a long time, but wow. They introduced a new controller, and don't get me wrong, I own a Wii U, and it is an awesome console.

But God, Sony brought WAY more to the table. They have so many little things that make this thing look like it's going to be awesome. Also, for whatever reason, Nintendo didn't choose to go with next gen graphics. That's it, the Wii U is going to have a ton of first party support, and then probably not much else. They might be thrown a bone every here and there, and maybe even get some special 3rd party games that don't need a lot of graphics. Other than that, they will probably come in last place this gen.

I also, like you,  defended Nintendo a lot last year.

The proof is in the pudding. Wii u sales are bad. The system is weak. Many people are not interesteed in it.

I am really worried about Nintendo because as it stands, wii u is looking to be the poorest console they ever released.

What third party developer will want to work with a weak, poorly selling console? The power gap between wii u and PS4 is immense, far more than I ever imagined.

they really don't give  single console ownersa choice, its like taking a honda over a ferrari, sure you get mario and zelda which are great but you miss out on the nextgen experiance, sony excusives and amazing third party games.

Frankly, Zelda/3D Mario/Xenoblade 2/etc at 2GB of RAM is the preferable choice to me.

I don't see PS4 as any more next gen than Wii U. Don't get me wrong, it looks like a very promising system, but the choice isn't as one-way as you describe.

I don't want to get into this next-gen argument again. I had enough of it last gen. If you think wii u is next gen that's fine. I can respect if not agree with your opinion.

Many developers don't think it is next gen and that matters to the consumers. From it's poor sales I am guessing that the majority of consumers don't think it's next-gen either... or maybe that it's not worth getting.

As for choices, yes, I believe it is that simple. You yourself admit to it. You want to play Zelda. Mario etc., Wii u is for you.

If you want all the third party blockbusters, wii u is not for you.  If you want both Mario and third party big hitters like GTA then you need two consoles. It really is that simple.

By your logic the vita is not a next gen handheld.

I am not quite sure how you arrived at that but the latest handheld mean little to me. I have no real interest in them.

But to clarify, next-gen to me means a generation step forward in performance based on the best of what went before.

So the PS2 should be significantly better in performance than the best console that preceded it. The x360 should be significantly superior in performance to the xbox, the PS and the gamecube, The PS4 should be a big performance step above the x360 and the PS3...etc, etc. etc.

If the PS Vita is a respectable improvement in performance over the PSP then IMO it is next gen.

Just my opinion.

.. and some people actually said this thing wouldn't have 8GB of RAM...

I said I'd be happy with at least 4GB, and they said I was crazy and it would have 2GB... :(

Thanks, Sony.

Does it really have 8gb GDDR5? Wouldn't that be obscenely expensive?

Yes and unneccessary. Although it sounds really nice and it is an enthusiast's dream, the price will be unnecessarily inflated with not that big of a jump in performance since the GPU and CPU are frankly just average.

how do you know this, i doubt sony is stupid, they wouldn't be throwing moiney away like that unless there was a huge benefit.

Well based on their early decisions with the ps3, the ps vita, their poor marketing I would consider Sony to be somewhat "stupid."  If Sony wants to launch at $400-$500 and have 8gb GDDR5 and not lose $200-$300 on each unit sold then it will have an average CPU/GPU. They will probably go with the rumored 8 core amd and a 7850 equivalent.

Its fucking amazing they actually upped it to 8gigs GDDR5 It completely blows away the next Xbox's 8gigs of DDR3.

GPU is average? lmao, a 7970M=HD7870, so no not average at all

Where has it been said its a 7970m? I must have missed the part where they went into detail about the parts of the console.

Very few things were said hardware-wise. Eight core CPU was mentioned, customised gpu as far as I can remenber.

The only thing they said was very likely wrong. The guy said something like "CPU plus GPU on the same die". What he probably meant was a SOC type design (chips on the same _chip carrier_). As AMD doesn't make eight core processors, the CPU likely is two quad core Jaguar CPUs with interconnecting glue logic on one die, and the GPU on the other die (supposedly the GPU is heavily customised as the presenter also hinted). The next XBox probably uses the same CPU assembly or each of the two competitors added their own glue logic wishes. As the Jaguar is not exactly a high end cpu. the design of the glue logic probably decides who has the better cpu in the end. Apparently the Jaguar scales much better when overclocked than previous AMD processors, either Sony or MS could turn that screw a little to "win".

Expensice stuff in the end. I'd guess $529 for a full PS4 and $449 for a "light" version..

fcuk me, kill zone 4 looks incredible, i really feel bad for those defending the wiiu, nintendo has did them wrong again.

Oh noes, Nintendo is doomed! I mean just look at those mad particle effects!! Haha, honestly, Nintendo fans obviously don't care about graphics. We care about a little thing called gameplay. That's why we're Nintendo gamers and not Sony gamers :P

But seriously, Killzone 4 looks great but didn't even look that noticably better than PS3, let alone Wii U. I wasn't that impressed to be honest. I'll still buy a Wii U over PS4. but enjoy your $699 PS4. Hope those 8 gigs are worth it..

Make that a 7850m equivalent. No way they gonna put a 130 watt GPU in there. The 7800 GTX on which the RSX was based had a TDP of 81 Watts.

i'm sorry but all console have gamplay. i'm sure there more to gaming then mario and zelda, even though they are great games.

Yes I understand that but I really think Sony should have gone maybe 4gb ddr5 for gaming purposes and maybe 4gb ddr3 for everything else. Sure in the long run it may be beneficial but wasn't the cell supposed to be beneficial in the long run too? I'm just thinking that Sony might be digging themselves in a financial hole again. If Durango specs hold true then it is likely that Microsoft can easily launch for $100 less than ps4 which may be fatal. If Sony plays hard ball and decide to match whatever price Microsoft sets then they will lose quite a bit of money for each unit sold.

Fatal?  The PS3 launched for $200 more than the 360 and 1 year later.  1 1/2 years later in EU, one of Sony's most important regions.  How did that turn out?  Sony is about to pass the 360 sometime this year (probably in 2-3 quarters).  So, now we have the PS4 launching the same year as the NeXbox, and it might be $100 more expensive (I'm guessing $50-$75 will be more accurate).  MS doesn't stand a chance in EU and Japan.

I know, I just wanted to know where Turkish got his nonsense from.

As for the CPU plus GPU on the same die bit, won't the Jaguar have an integrated GPU?

And the latest rumours suggest $430 for the base model and $530 for the premium model.
