I still think they went overboard with how they described 3DS performance and current status of specialized gaming handhelds. Read the entire three paragraphs.

First post! YAY!
It is a failure now, but its nothing that cant be fixed. I think the hang up is the way over priced memory card. That is the hang up for me and my vita, i refuse to dish out $90-$100 for 32GB card. Lower that price and i would buy much more digital content. Right now I have a 8GB but i have to delete things just to install something else, making it collect dust more than be played lately, along with the lack of titles, reminds me of the psp days of big promises and nothing delivered. I had one of those too... I was hoping for a better turnout this time around.

lol I didm't read the article because for me Vita is a waste of time now... and I agree the 3DS sales is no way near bad... it's good... I thing the only hadware with good sales in the market now (well the US and EU can be a little better).
| RolStoppable said: Two things wrong with this: 1) The PSV is underperforming on a major scale. Sony originally expected to ship 16m handhelds this fiscal year, this forecast has been revised down to 7m. 2) If Sony knew what they were doing, they wouldn't have created a niche product that requires widespread success to generate profits. Like point 1 shows, Sony didn't think of the PSV as a niche product in the first place and your post reeks of desperation, trying to revise history, so that you don't have to admit that the PSV is a failure. It is one. No ifs, no buts. It will stay one, unless we get a good amount of game announcements in the coming weeks. If the pipeline for new releases dries up, it's pretty much over. The bottom line is that the PSV doesn't need to be compared to any other device to look bad. It's a failure by Sony's own standards. |
OK just because you want to call something a "failure" does not mean it is!
what is a failure?
is selling over 3 million of something a failure? when on earth is selling over a million of anything even considered a failure?
that's like saying well i sold a million copy's of my book but its a failure!
LMAO
No what it's showing is many just want to write thing's off based on what they think is a Pass or a fail.
Not what something is, Sony said they want sales to be better and they are poor right now , and just because you lower the sales forecast does not mean you are admitting something is a failure, you are telling you could not make the current sales Goal, which mean's you failed to reach that goal at that time, that does not mean you could not reach that goal at another point in time. I mean where is this race so seeming started from, Like sony is in a race to beat Nintendo to the sales mark or something? How about Samsung, or HTC, or Microsoft, Sony in a race to reach a certain sales mark before they do?
LOL..the company has a goal it set's that does not mean just because they did not reach the goal than does not mean they will not reach it at another time nor does it say that the product is a "failure" the PS3 and the xbox360 getting the green light or red ring of death, now that is a product failure!

"Sony’s fans won’t want to hear this, but the gaming public is getting less and less interested in its in-house games"
This. This. And This.
GT, Uncharted, and God of War. Sonys 3 tier IPs (adopting MSs approach). All else simply doesnt cause a retail splash anymore or sell less then multiplats.
Vita needs those 3 franchises ASAP. Otherwise, you need 3rd parties and deals with them.

Vita needs first recovers in Japan (the largest gaming handheld market today)... so I think games like Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest, One Piece, Final Fantasy, etc are the best aprouch for Sony in this market.
After that Sony needs to recovers Europe... US is a little more complicated.
Japan is the key.

Thats some nice spin.....like serious DJ levels there.
The Vgchartz homepage shows lifetime sales of consoles and handhelds........you get the idea that selling 3 million of something in gaming hardware is a failure. Compared to 3DS...compared to PSP, Vita is a failure so far. Sony projected 10 million Vitas by March this year origionally, that certainly didnt work out. Deal with it.
Books and video games comapred together? wow.
Having lowered goals and standards also constitutes a failure to many people. Your on Vgchartz, a sales web site. Software sales are abysmal and that too should tell you something. Your 360 comment is funny, since it still is 2nd place after all these years, if thats a failure, then I dont know what youd call the PS3 if its losing to that ;)

what? Oh come on that's like saying just because ponderosa does not sell as many steak dinner's as say outback steak house does not mean people are not interested.
hey if you want, they are not interested as much, hows that is that better for you?

I think this is a bad sign and really bad because they put a lot of effort and passion in their exclusives but somehow this doesn't appeal to gamers sufficiently. Instead ppl buy the sequel of the sequel of the sequel of COD... I hope next gen will still give us excellent exclusives, even if they don't sell millions...

Shame since Dragon Quest is allready working wonders for 3DS, not to mentioon MH4. Nintendo seems to have 3rd party franchises on lock down.
