Would love to see this happen only to see the reaction of all those Sony fanboys who called out M$ fanboys for being stupid for paying for online.

But on the other hand, I don't want to pay for online and I was thinking of buying a PS4 eventualy :S

I would just buy the PS4 and not play online (the only thing I use it for now is Plus deal downloads, demos, and trophies).  I always get SP games anyway.  Also if it is just plus with more stuff than I will happily subscibe because I like getting hundreds of dollars worth of content for $50 a year.

I'm gonna stick my neck out and say Sony will not charge for online

I think we're reading a little too hard into this article; the article stated "Orbis is also following the path first set by Xbox Live: our source says "most" of the PS4's online features will require a premium subscription to use. Sony's new online service will be called PlayStation World, our source says, replacing PlayStation Plus."

this seems more like a PS+ overhaul than Sony charging for online service, and note they said "most" not "all" meaning it can very well be that the online is still free(and other apps that require no premium subscription ) Sony might add other incentives to make PS+ or "Playstation World" more alluring.

this is what I'm thinking

Both companies have their market now. There is to many things like friends, achievments/trophies, and games that people are to invested in to fully switch. Why would people switch if they both cost money? Your friends and everything are on a certain system and people will stay on that system regardless.

Only hardcore gamers are invested. The average 360 gamer has no problem switching to PS3 and from PS3 to 360. I cringe every time someone claims this.

The Hardcore gaming is the one who switches because they want the most bang for their buck. That is who we are on here. The ones who will "switch" consoles if there are no used games and so on.

The average gammer is the guy who buys a 360 or PS3 to play Call of Duty with their friends and use Netflix and will continue to buy the same consoles as their friends. You can actually put a lot of hardcore gamers into that as well.

People online thinks there is some WAR going on for the casuals. That is not the case. They want to play with their friends and watch movies.

So you agree? All the achievements and stuff don't matter. If the cool console is from the other company people will have no problem to switching over if their friends switch with them.

I can see them keeping online gaming free while expanding on the features and incentives of their current PS Plus model. There would be too much backlash if they were to implement the MS model IMHO.

If online play is free then I don't feel the need to give a fuck if they charge for other things, PS3 online is usually quite and I like it that way.

I just want the meltdowns (not just here but the entire net) even though I think it will be tiered with basic online remaining free. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if MS and Sony have very similar strategies regarding their paid services next gen. We'll find out soon enough.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

Like many people already said, I want this be true just to see the meltdowns.

I can't wait!

How about a netflix for games replacing psplus? Falls in line with gaikai and psplus. No longer dl games, but stream psplus games.
