Forums - PC - Figuring out your motherboard, and is it time to upgrade my CPU, RAM, and Monitor?

So I have no idea what kind of Motherboard I have.  I used the programs like AIDA32 to try and help but it just lists it as unknown but says it 2700 MHz next to it.  I don't know if this would be helpful but it says it's memory read is 11886 MB/s and it's memory write speed is 7878 MB/s.   I do know that motherboards only work well with CPU's of a certian chipset and my CPU is an i7 920 @ 2.67 GHz.  Any ideas? (we now know its a EX58-UD5)

Anyhow I upgraded my GPU from SLI GTS 250's to a GTX 660 Ti last year and I'm wondering if it's time to upgrade anything else this year.  My plan is so that I what ever I buy should be good/decent for 2-3 years before needing another upgrade.  O and ~$300 per part is my limit.

You already know my CPU but what should I upgarde to?  And what motherboard should I get with that?

My RAM is 3 2gig DDR3-1600G's so 6 GB's.  Should I aim for 12 GB's of RAM?  And at what speed?

My Monitor is a Acer X223W 22 inch at 1680x1050.  I mostly wanna get a new monitor tho cause the 16x10 ratio it ahs.  I might as well get an upgrade when switchin to a 16x9 monitor.  Any suggestions?

Any advice would be helpful. :)

i'd just overclock the 920. If you at all, want to try. I have mine clocked to 4ghz with noctua NHD14. I think it overclocks to like 3.2 ~ 3.4 ghz easy on stock air, or buy a decent cooler.

That imo would be a much more efficient use of your money.

If you don't want to overclock, I'm sure other people will post, I don't know the best bang for your buck things currently that well. Are you going to sell your I7 920?

+1!  That is exactly what you should do.

I'm one of those weridos that keeps what he buys.

(IE still have both my 250's, and old consoles/handhelds around)

Overclocking didn't pass my mind for my CPU.  Sounds like a good idea, probably will go the stock air option to be a cheap ass.  Tho some peeps are saying OCing to 3.6 GHz is fine just on stock air (crazies saying 4, livin life on the edge).

There isn't much need to upgrade your CPU or RAM yet. You already upgraded your video card to a really good card too, if possible you should get a second one and SLI them. Finally, yes upgrade that monitor to a 1920x1200 (or 1080 if you prefer that but I don't).

I have the same CPU, you probably have a x58 chipset motherboard, as ishiki said buy a decent cooler and overclock it to around 3.6ghz or even 4ghz.

I'd weigh other peoples opinions, and research it before you do it if you decide. Overclocking that processor is simple by  just bumping the BCLK up, and to get a slight boost like I mentioned you don't have to adjust voltage or anything. And if you do something weird reset the CMOS.

However, I'm used to doing this kind of thing, and I don't want you to be having unneeded stress. It shouldn't be stressful. but, I've seen some people do some strange things.

Press F12 or del at post and look around the bios, that might tell you which mobo you have.

I use newegg to buy everything so when I need to remember what i bought, I just go there and look up my history.

For info on your system use CPU-Z:

I'm currently testing just overclockin my CPU to 3 GHz atm, since I'm new to this.

CPU Frequency: 2.67 GHz -> 3.00 GHz

QPI Clock Ratio: Auto -> x36

Base Clock: 133 -> 150

Uncore Clock Ratio: Auto -> 16

System Memory Mult: Auto -> 8

CPU Vcore: 1.25V -> 1.2875V

QPI/Vtt: 1.2V -> 1.34V

DRAM: 1.5V -> 1.64V
