Forums - Gaming - Have you ever seen another console get as much media attention as the PS4 is getting before its annoucement?

@Forevercloud

Well, my brother who has owned PlayStation 1, 2, and 3 (like me) has no idea the PlayStation 4 is set to be announced tomorrow. He's kind of a casual gamer but he's the kind of person these ads should be making their way out to, not people who are always up to date with gaming news like you and me. We'll know the PS4 is coming no matter what.

It might be because I'm older now, but I don't see people around me hyped anywhere near the level I did the PS3 or any past PlayStation consoles.

I agree though I think these "leaks" may originate from Sony's marketing department. Without fail we seem to have every Sony announcement leaked out before it's reveal (remember PSP Go, Move, and Vita?) and if someone was really leaking this stuff Sony would have put a stop to it long ago.

Around the Network

To be honest, it's mostly this site which is really driving home the 20th meeting, and that's about it. Most other sites I've seen have been talking about Destiny, Aliens, Luigi mostly. Aside from this forum.

But it only leads to one thing: Disappointment. No doubt no matter what is or isn't announced tomorrow, the vocal Sony fanbase will still spin it into a success (like the whole Vita thing yesterday), no matter how "average" it's likely to be.

Because if I don't see FFXV, Versus XIII, Last Guardian, Watch_Dogs, UC4, GT6, Galaki, pre-determined graphics, Ratchet and Clank and more, then I'll be disappointed. Because these are what "rumours suggest" or "what people are expecting".

You mean it is getting much at Gametrailers? It depends where you look, Wii got a lot of attention even before it was released, the X360 got a lot of attention aswell, at some points you could not open MTV or it was X360... X360 and X360 they were talking about.

=p It is just like they are talking only about PS4 now but that is because their is not much other news around this time of the year.

^ what he said.

He's still wrong. He's comparing a console that was already revealed and advertised to one that is rumoured to being revealed tomorrow. I thought it was pretty simple to understand. Clearly not.

I understand very well and the X360 got a lot of hype before it was revealed.... At some points their was no more music on MTV..

So, was it before the Xbox360 was revealed? Because in your earlier post you said that they were talking about the Xbox360. So, which is it?

The X360 was revealed on MTV so yes before and after.

It's getting a decent amount of attention. I'd say a bit more then Wii U was.

Try neogaf and gamefaqs.

Also it should be noted that every console gets a lot of buzz shortly before; and around, release. Wii U did with Project Cafe, and the 3DS most certainly did because it sort of came out of nowhere. But what I saw with them was much information on mainstream news sites like the BBC and Sky. I'm not seeing that here.

Honestly, they'll be a buzz for this week no doubt, like there was after every other console announcement, but this site will just drag it on and on and on and on...it's crazy! It's not a bad thing, as it were.

But this is my point, both those sites are heavily Sony-centric. You look at most ACTUAL gaming websites and there's very little talk about it (though this will likely change on Thursday), no more than your average rumour.

Hype for the PS4 conference coming up Wednesday has certainly garnered a lot of attention here on the gaming web forums, but like Veknoid said, outside of that the PS4 isn't nearly the hype machine that the Wii was in 2006 going into its E3 reveal.

The Wii had a four hour wait and record-long lines at E3 in '06. And remember, E3 attendees are the press and gamers, NOT casuals. If Sony and the PS4 can achieve this, then I'll concede to the hype level:

And what's the line like for the PS4's E3 debut?

Prior to Wii's E3 '06 nothing had been revealed besides the outer case for the console and a five second glimpse of Samus at the previous  E3 (i.e. nothing), and later, the controller.  Seeing as how we know just as much about the PS4 now as we did about the Wii then (pre-E3), they're on equal ground... and the Wii had garnered more hype.

So, once again, if the PS4 debut on the 20th causes attention at this year's E3 similar to the video above, then I'll concede to the hype of the PS4.  Simple, no?

I think Microsoft is going to do something huge for the 720 unveiling. Last time they got that full MTV special, I think they'll match/exceed that.

Letting Sony go first in a dead month like February is fine by MS I think.

Yeah, but that's not saying much. Wii U was probably met with the least amount of fanfare of any console in memory.
