Forums - Gaming Discussion - Have you ever seen another console get as much media attention as the PS4 is getting before its annoucement?

Really, I've never seen this much coverage. People, sites, reports are writing out lists of things Sony should and shouldn't do to come out on top. That is a huge amount of respect and criticism and Sony should feel honored despite their mistakes. They have left a better taste in gamers mouths for quite a few years despite a self inflicted first start. Anyway, If you can think of a time that another console brand in the last two gens has come out with more concerned press please add. This mysterious February 20th date it really getting to people. One more day! :)

The Wii definitely got some great press after launch with the casuals and use on daytime television. Wasnt the Wii met with skepticism before the launch though?

I think the Wii got more media attention -- good and bad -- than Sony's successor to PS3.

Honestly, if it wasn't for this site I wouldn't have known about February 20. Meanwhile, in 2006, I was being bombarded with news about Wii from all sides.

I don't think many people outside of our bubble are aware of Sony's press conference or the rumored specs of PS4. There's nothing really transcendent about PS4 so far, whereas Wii captured the imagination of people beyond the video game world.

The PS4 is getting more attention from core gamers though.

that is true. I didnt know about feb 20th until this forum. I knew about the Wii because of Wii ads everywhere Town Square Manhattan, New York.

Toys r us had a HUGE wall with the picture of the Wii. I mean massive.

Really? I don't find it's getting that much. If anything I'd expect more.

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

You're confusing announcement hype with launch ads.
