Forums - Sales - Tsutaya Game Ranking (Feb 11 - Feb 17)

I'm gonna stick to COMG, I think. This chart is unrealistically PS3-centric. I count five PS3 games there; there won't be any in this week's MC/Famitsu, in all likelihood. Pretty sure that means it's not very reliable.

There were 4 PS3 games, 2 PSV games, and 1 PSP game on Media Create last week...

Are these sales? I thought they only rented them. My local Tsutaya doesn't even have any games.

They sell too. I'm assuming since you have a local Tsuyata you can read the top of the chart says "Game Sell Ranking"

C'mon man who would rent out download and registration codes :p

Yeah, I feel pretty stupid now.

Anyway, this reminds me I should rent some games in Japanese, it could help me learn the language (I don't speak it too well). I heard Pokemon games are in hiragana, perjaps it'd be a good start, but I don't know if I'd have the patience.

On topic:

Well, 3DS is Japan's console, pretty much. It's ridiculous how much SW it sells compared to others.

Also, I just learned that Dragon Quest is called Dragon Warrior in the West, thanks to VGC. News to me.

Yay for Demon Gaze. Japanese developers would be foolish to continue ignoring the Vita. It's a wide open market that isn't choked with other, bigger games. Hopefully this will open some eyes.

Yeah Pokemon gives the option to use kana or kanji. A lot of Nintendo games, or Nintendo consoles games, are built kid friendly and have either options to cut kanji or have furigana. The furigana option is superior from a learning perspective since you can see the kanji and its reading at the same time. Dragon Quest VII specifically does have furigana, you might want to consider that. Just a quick example:

I only have a DS, Vita and PS3. After some research, I may get Ni No Kuni. I'd have to check the dictionary every 10 seconds though, lol.

Thanks! :)

I'm really sorry; I feel like a moron now. It was late at night and I looked at the COMG weekly chart (which has no PS3 games right now), somehow thinking it was last week's chart. My bad.

I do find it interesting that, if this chart is roughly accurate, it means that COMG is very anti-Sony (well, anti-PS3, at least) this week, which is not what we're used to at all.

No worries, this chart isn't going to be 100% accurate either, but it is used as a decently reliable estimate on a number of sites I read. There will always be skews from any individial retailer though. For example, Dragon Quest X usually charts in the top 20 here yet usually does not in Media Create. Why? Because Tsutaya has a deal with Square Enix to hand out 1 week free trials and sell the full registration codes for a highly discounted price. So their sales data is skewed on that game. Same would go if they have a special sale on any particular piece of software during the week.

Have you already determined what this retailer's sales are skewed towards? Well, other than special sales, which I'm presuming shouldn't be too hard to find out about.
