How about for the same price it is going for now? That was my idea. Keep it at $50, but add this to it.

That would be fine by me, but I don't know if they'd leave the price as it is with BC on top of it. That's my main concern.

Idea is to say you have the old content on your machien for sale, but make sure that owners of the new console can't play their old titles, so you can resell it. This looks like a way to try to answer the riddle of how you get people to buy the same content over and over and over again. |
I would presume that all titles bought via PSN will work, otherwise it's not really BC. It'd just be buying PS4 ports of PS3 titles. We don't consider the HD Classics line to be BC, now do we?
It'd be like playing PSP games on Vita. UMD games obviosuly don't work, but all games bought via the network were available from day one.
For disc based games, yes, we'd have to rebuy them all. And for most people that would be the bulk of their collection.
I would be neither surprised nor angry if they made this a PS Plus only feature. Now if Microsoft has BC (Which I doubt) and they offer it for free (again, which I doubt) then maybe Sony should think about giving it for free as well. But for now, BC with PS Plus sounds fine to me.
I think you will rent the service for monthly or more time subscription ($20 for three months) but you can play your PS3 games for free if you put it on the tray (that is what I wish).

And yet somehow, I completely missed it even though I looked first. Ugh. *facepalm*
I can see a rename for gaikai incoming.. Sony Stream sounds simplistic but good
How would this work exactly, streaming it onto your PS3? Would it be like OnLive, because if so I'm very skeptical about it. I've heard that Onlive gaming (especially playing an online mp game) can be very laggy. That would suck especially when playing a game that needs precise timing (fighting games and shooters come to mind). Could be very unresponsive especially when connected to people/hosts with bad connections.
I've been saying this since they acquired Gaikai.
I suspect that PS+ subscribers will be able to access the streaming service with free players getting limited access (few hours a month maybe?) and have to pay full price for games streamed (although they'll be tied to the PSN account).
I also remember reading about a patent Sony had that involved registering games on an online account so this could potentially play a factor (put in old PS3 disc and have the game register on your account for streaming). At the time I think most associated it with anti-piracy/anti-used games DRM.
