It would be great if PS4 lets me install my PS3 game to the hard drive and then a virtual emulator plalys the game through Gaikai or something. This way it wouldn't really use that much bandwidth as you wouldn't be streaming full games from the cloud.

again, again and again: it is all up to *latency*, bandwidth isn't that crucial.

Yes, latency is important, but for many people, so is bandwidth.

Many people have a bandwidth limit for their internet. If they go OVER that limit, they'll be paying extra per gig or something. But a more important issue than bandwidth is internet speeds.

wait now I'm confused: what is the difference for you between bandwidth andinternet speed? do you actually mean a trafficlimit? to make the experience nice for the user internetspeed is also important but  way more latency. think of an access to the wired via satellite: you'll get high bandwidth but lousy latency and will most certainly not enjoy any streaming service. that's what I meant.

Bandwidth and Internet Speeds are 2 completely different things.

For example, my internet speeds at 3mbps download/0.7mbps upload. My bandwidth limit is 150 gigabytes. So for me, although I have a pretty high bandwidth limit, I wouldn't even be able to run a streaming service such as Gaikai since my internet speeds is way too slow.

I got a ps3 so I would rather buy old games for cheap used

Sony's got teh cell and bluray in their mighty arsenal. They don't need to rely on puny digital distribution for gaming...

Seriously though, I find it hard to believe that they will do PS3 game streaming and stop there. Why not PS4 game streaming?

What do you mean? Like having them release a competing service to the physical hardware itself?

I think so, down the line. That's where the industry is going: pure digital based.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

That's just not going to happen. This industry will never be PURE digital.

I wouldn't say "pure" but I can see they releasing a service like that in a few years - and these are the keywords.

I like streaming. Hope the next box has it. My only concern (not for me, but for others) is that it will replace backwards compatibilty. But that mnay not be a bad thing, may make for a cheaper system.

Well I worded that wrong. What I meant was digital to be an equal way to retail for accessing your games. Every game will be offered digitally at some point alongside retail versions.

May I ask you where you are from? according to your profile it's us. I am surprised that youhave limited internet traffic,  really.

Why are you surprised? The competition here in the US between Internet Service Providers is virtually non-existant.
Take  a look at this article which explains how far behind the US is in internet speeds and affordability http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/05/internet-speed-united-states-digital-divide_n_1855054.html
