I think Sony cares about the gamer much more than Microsoft ever has.

On the theory that 0.01% > 0.001%?

He's kinda right. Sony takes far more risks with games, and creates far more than Microsoft would ever think to create. Their mind marketwise is squarely on the avid gamer and that can help but it can also hurt on a massive scale.

Yeah but when you task risks and don't follow up with money and marketing you become a murderer. What is the kill count on studios Sony has put down over the past few years?

But hey as long as some fan boys can say we have more games then you every thing is OK. I am never seen a fan base of anything brag about something and not buy it as much as Sony fans do.

What is the kill count on studios MS has killed? I'll start:

1. Ensemble Studios

your move

That is so true,  so many games released and so many failed because a very few bought them. 2012 was a disaster for Sony exclusives. Journey was the saviour but even them go multiplatform because they want to have an better financial situation something the Sony fanbase not delivered.

2. Aces Studio (Flight simulator)

Both of these were due to the "financial crisis". MS not immune, eh?

Next move

Journey devs only had a 3 game deal with Sony. Who wouldn't want extra sales? That's like saying Notch only went to XBLA because he was in a bad financial situation.

Pezus, Sony cut a lot more studios in the last couple years then MS has this gen.

Sony has also acquired a lot more studios this gen that have actually made games this gen. They're losing the fat and acquiring the goodies.

Another company some would say MS has (indirectly) killed: Rare - a shadow of its former self.

underperforming goodies ;). In the span of one year, BigBig, Zipper Interactive, ThatGameCompany exclusive contract not reniewed, Relentless software dropped exclusivity, and recently Sony Liverpool.

5 Studios either closed and/or not making PS3 exclusives anymore. Insomiac resources also shifting to multiplat developement also means they arent committed 100% to Sony like they used to be.

Rare ironically, has made its most profit with Kinect software this gen. But id imagine next gen will go back to core, if the rumors are true. Just saying you can't spin that MS cut its devs like the flight sim guys and ensemble but Sony was just "trimming the fat". Double standard , tsk tsk

For the first time in a long time I'm really excited about Rare and what it might do with the next Xbox. I'm hoping for a launch game that really takes advantage of the hardware. Something innovative, something surprising, something great that will bring the company back to its glory days.

Tell us, what games are underperforming from the new studios.

I believe Sony purchased the Infamous studio and Media Molecule this gen. In both cases the IPs from them have failed to create blockbuster sales and/or have both dropped off in sales with every successive release.

Oh, silly me. I thought "underperforming" meant we knew, for sure, it didn't reach expectations of the company. Carry on. ;)

LBP - 5.13 m, LBP 2 - 2.84 m

LBP (PSP) - 2.17 m, LBP Vita - 0.35 m (currently)

LBP Karting - 0.42 m (currently)

Infamous - 2.56, Infamous 2 - 1.53

Oh im sorry, I had no idea that Sony either bought them knowing that sales would decrease rather then increase....an exact opposite motivation to acquire a budding IP and developer for themselves, OR that they have very low expectations as a company.

Don't know why your picking a fight with me on this one, yet still maintaining the ";)" attitude despite the numbers being clearly in my favor.

You know that Media Molecule wasn't involved in all of those LBP games, correct? Also, despite inFAMOUS 2 selling less than its predecessor, that doesn't mean that it A. underperformed or B. will be the downfall of Sucker Punch.

So, it's not about randomly picking fights, it's picking apart a flimsy argument. If they are truly "underperforming", they too will then be trimmed, but you spin anything related to this company to justify your viewpoint. Doesn't mean it can't be debated ;)

You can nitpick, but the grand picture with the IPs remains unchanged. The numbers each IP are pulling in now are nothing to be proud of, both showing downward trends, and if they do meet expectations, then they are low expectations. I dont know how to make it any clearer.

Throwing around a ";)" and "flimsy" doesn't change that my point is rooted in numbers on this site, regarding a downward trend with IPs that Sony origionally bought with the idea of them showing promise in the beginning.

Looks to me like inFAMOUS and LBP both not only continue to improve upon their "promises", but are still garnering news as I type. MM and SP aren't causing issue for Sony, and the teams that were, have been disbanded. All esle can only be speculated.

Now your just regressing to that argument instead of the numbers argument, which was my entire premise. I am not talking about how they improve gameplay/promises with each release, im talking its sales over time. Gaming news reports on new developements, that in itself isn't noteworthy. Bottom line sales are what I was talking about. It would look very bad for Sony to drop them so soon after acquiring them. Id imagine they give them (and their IPs) a couple more tries before making any tough decisions. But thats speculation off course, and kinda off topic of my origional point, but I imagine that is what you wanted, to bring me into "your turf" so to speak.

My downward trend argument stands, regardless if you think I just spin whatever I want for my own viewpoint.
