Forums - Gaming - Microsoft: “Everybody Knows” PS3 “Isn’t as Good of an Entertainment Console” as Xbox 360

Microsoft probably has created a better multimedia environment.

That being said, it's games that matter. Not Netflix, not Redbox, not ESPN, not YouTube.

Just give me a disc drive, a CPU, some RAM and processors, and wrap it all up in plastic, metal, and glass. Support it with awesome games. All the other applications and multimedia functions are just gravy.

I don't get how people can say that.  One can play blu-rays and support 7.1 surround, the other can't.  One lets you access almost all the apps of the other one FREE while the other one charges $60 for you to do so every year.  Which one sounds more like the entertainment hub now?

PS3 is a great system, PM. It's a better console than Xbox 360. But it's not Blu-ray that makes it great.

The point is we shouldn't care who has the better multimedia environment.

Consider this, you have to be a Gold member to get access to all the entertainment apps on the 360. However, no amount of money is gonna get you access to those same apps on PS3. So even a little extra to use those apps, the 360 still offers more multimedia options.

The high quality sound and picture of Bluray! Well players start at about $50 now. Bluray players seem to do a great job at supporting the rental industry, because I don't know many people actually buying Bluray movies.

The greater market wants this. So, it will push nextboxes into consumers' homes whether hobbyists want that or not, that doesn't matter.

Crackle (rarely), Netflix, youtube, etc. are available on PS3.  Sure it can do ESPN I guess but I can watch highlights on my computer (same applies for the other ones too I guess).  My point is not really worth $60 in my estimation, but whatever.  Also high quality sound and Bluray are things you can't get on 360 no matter what you pay so same logic applies and my bluray collection says that does matter.

I think Sony cares about the gamer much more than Microsoft ever has.

On the theory that 0.01% > 0.001%?

He's kinda right. Sony takes far more risks with games, and creates far more than Microsoft would ever think to create. Their mind marketwise is squarely on the avid gamer and that can help but it can also hurt on a massive scale.

Yeah but when you task risks and don't follow up with money and marketing you become a murderer. What is the kill count on studios Sony has put down over the past few years?

But hey as long as some fan boys can say we have more games then you every thing is OK. I am never seen a fan base of anything brag about something and not buy it as much as Sony fans do.

BigBig Studios, Zipper Interactive and SCE Studio Liverpool and then we have Q-Games, Insomniac Games  thatgamecompany,  Eat Sleep Play, Idol Minds, and LightBox Interactive breaking away from exclusives or leaving console development altogether to focus on Mobile.

Almost all of those (at least the ones which have closed down) released awful games, except for maybe Liverpool. I hate to see studios close down but was a smart decision to close them, Zipper especially is one of my biggest studio let downs this gen.

I hope they show what their new studios are making at E3 so they can shut us all up. MS, prove to us that you can do games and entertainment.

This just beyond stupid, did medias really that hungry for getting hits?

Nope, Microsoft got hungry for hits. A sad and humorous attempt at trying to steal some of the spotlight from the February 20th PlayStation conference.

You know they arent even trying, saving their famous marketing muscle for later.

What is going on with Microsoft lately? It seems ever since Sony started all this PS4 kerfuffle, MS have been desperately trying to downplay PS3, play up 360 and have generally just been acting ridiculously.

Which is fine. PS3 made plenty of mistakes; 360 is doing well in North America at the moment. It's been like that for years, yet they've not been this aggressive in a long while.

Which makes me wonder if all this hot air is simply a veil for the fact that they're worried Sony are going to announce their new console much earlier than MS expected and now they're in panic mode trying to get something done.

Probably not. But it certainly comes across that way.
