I feel bad for the PR guy... he is having HELL right now trying to make this sound less abysmal.

They just had one of the most massive month on month declines ever. Where's the stabilization? |
Sales were up 10% last week. It will probably drop a little this week, but not significantly.

Four week month, right? Eh, I say 40-45k. |
Considering Fist of the North Star is the only release in February, and it won't have the holiday tail, I'd say that is optimistic. If we scale VGC's weekly numbers to NPD's total we see 56% of the sales happened in the first two weeks. The other 44% were pretty evenly split in the last three. If we use the 55k, that means 24.2k in the last three weeks or less than 8.1k per week. Even if that holds for February, we are only looking at 32.3k.

According to vgchartz
Time for hype

More then anything I hope this will cause Nintendo to notice how oblivious they are to changing console market (Handhelds they understand) and have staff changes in both their corporate headquarters and in NOA who helped cause this mess with their inability to advertise. |
Advertising could help, but what is currently the point in advertising? No games are coming out. The place where Nintendo dropped the ball was releasing nothing until late February, which thanks to Ubisoft is now late March. Since no games have come out, the only people buying the console are those who wanted one, but couldn't afford it until now. Sales and advertising will pick up soon, but it's going to be a rough month and a half.

"The concept is a dud. They told everyone that complicated controllers were dead, that the future was about motion control, and laughing and jumping and having fun...and then totally reversed course. Now the message is the same complicated dual analog controllers as the other guys with a tablet stuck in the middle. It's confusing, and convoluted, and not nearly as much fun.
The Wii U is Iwata grasping at straws, unsure what to do now that the casual market he was so proud of is happy with iPads and Smartphones, and the core is perfectly happy with Playstation's and Xbox's and PC's. They have no quarter. The Wii U is what happens when a company has a hit, squanders the good will and marketshare that hit built, and has no idea how to catch lightning a second time."
From a gaffer, I agree.

A band-aid alone doesn't do much to help a man who's just been rammed by a speeding truck, though. Still, your point is well taken.
